Hi all!
I just signed up yesterday. Right before my 36th birthday I started treatment for lymphoma. It included massive doses of prednisone and radiation killed my thyroid. I am almost one year out from treatment (I'm 38 now) and I have a good chance of being cured. However, between prednisone, no thyroid and a new boyfriend who likes to eat I have put on 28 pounds. At first I didn't mind as I felt I "deserved" to have fun and eat whatever I liked. Now I feel I deserve to fit into my old clothes! I'm thankful for life and don't want to waste it feeling crappy and heavy.
I was always the girl that ate right and exercised faithfully. Now, I am tired most of the time and damage from treatment has made many activities difficult if not impossible. I cannot let this stop me and we all know that what you put in your mouth is 80% of the equation to success.
I'm here because for the first time in my life I feel a little lost. My boyfriend, bless him, loves me as I am but does not help encourage me to lose weight. I have to be strong and not cave when he talks about food and such and then I know he will be more supportive.
So I'm here to learn from you guys!
Thanks,
Lori

Welcome.
At first my husband wasn't all that supportive either. (He was fine with the way I was.) But since he's noticed how seriously I'm taking it and that he is seeing results, his attitude is changing.
He has been telling me how proud he is of me.
Last night I walked in our bedroom and there he was eating a bowl of cereal. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was hungry but didn't want to tempt me by eating in front of me. So he went to the bedroom to hide while he ate. He's trying.
So stick to it, your boyfriend will come around. Give him time. You have to appreciate that he loves you unconditionally but, eventually he will figure out that loving you also means helping you to get rid of the unhealthy weight.0 -
Thanks BabyHippo. Oh gosh what a name. Your post gives me hope I won't have to beat him with a skillet.
Looks like we are the same age and in the northeast. You are about halfway to your goal...CONGRATS!0
