New Mom

Hey all!

I originally lost a total of 70 lbs before getting pregnant. Now a month and a half after giving birth I'm 45 lbs heavier. My postpartum body makes me cry. I am ready to get my body back, but am having trouble starting. The first step is always the hardest, right? Any other mom's out there having trouble too? Or any mom's who started their journey have any advice?

I'm a new mom as well. I had my son in June and just this month finally started trying to shed the weight. I gained 46 pounds while pregnant, lost 23 of it right away and now I'm busting *kitten* trying to lose the last 23! I've been doing the Jillian Michael's 30 day shred for the last two weeks. It's great because it's only 25 minutes and I can do it at home. I work full time and it's very hard to find time to work out or cook nutritious meals. I had no success losing any weight until I decided my health had to be a priority, since then I have lost three pounds (in 2 weeks!) I'm also breastfeeding and had the impression my weight would magically melt off, if anything it just seems more stubborn! Anyway, just wanted to say hi and you are not alone! Feel free to add me and we can support each other :) Good luck!

I am a mom, just not a new mom...

It has only been about 6 weeks...give yourself time! It takes 9 months to get big and 9 months to lose it. Losing pregnancy weight right after having the baby is NOT the same as losing weight. After pregnaancy, your uteurus, muscles, ligmanets and skin all have to get back into their normal shape. It takes time.

Right now you have a newborn, focus on your little one. Take each day as it comes, put the baby in a carrier or stroller and go take a walk, the fresh air will be good for the baby and walking is good for you. Focus on portion control, and bring in pre-packaged food that is easy to make for now. Protein bars, shakes and even lean cuisines...things you can grab and eat in a hurry that you know are portioned out. As the baby gets older you can re-focus on the food.

Most of all, ENJOY! Look at your body with pride, it just gave life to a new person!

You lost 70 lb before, you can do it again, it just takes some time
  • If you lost 70 lbs before, you can do it again! I'm in the same boat, second baby is due in a week or two. Feel free to add me. Are you breastfeeding? That will help burn calories. Are you working out at home or in the gym? P90X is a good workout. Kickboxing and zumba too. Scan pinterest for healthy recipes. There are a ton of them on there! Good luck :)

I have my story posted on my blog. I definitely have been there and finally got to where I wanted to be. http://fitandtoneforlife.blogspot.com
  • Thank you all for the positive encouragement!
I am breastfeeding, but I'm not seeing anything come of it. But my belly has tightened up a bit, definitely not where it was a month ago. While I don't think I'll be ready for P90X (Someday though, my boyfriend wants to "bulk up" while I want to tone) I have started 30 Day Shred again. I forgot how much I hate it, but I do like the results. I did it Monday and was very sore until today. I'll be on level one for a while. I hope to be into level two by November, level three by December. And then start running again by January.
I work retail and go back to work at the beginning of October. I also have a late start class in mid-October. I hope that more movement in my day and more time not being so close to the pantry will help aid!
It's all just a little frustrating. When I was this size before it was over time, and after pregnancy I went to this body over night. It was a little shock to the system.
Btw, I LOVE Pintrest. Obsessed!! Gotta do something when the boy is watching something lame on tv ;)
