Are you hiding from people during your weight loss?

Since I've been making some very noticeable changes, I find myself not going to places or events I would normally go...at least not right now. I have made excuses and avoided some events for hanging out with people I haven't seen in a while. The main reason is I don't want the question, "Have you lost weight?" but, rather, I want to hear the statement, "WOW!! You've really lost weight!!"
Does anyone else find themselves doing this?

Yeah, that would be bad.0 -
LOL...I have been hiding from my Dad and my Grandma...I want to really shock them.:noway:0

Haha, yes! I went to a music festival 2 weekends ago and saw people I'd not seen in anywhere between 8-12 months and I was rocking a nicely fitted NBA jersey. Got a lot of suprised reactions xD0

umm,i havent told people..
but,im not keeping it a secret you know?0 -
I have definitely hermited myself a bit. But I haven't told anyone that I am working on my weight.0

I feel like I'm putting myself in a cocoon... and in 6 months or so, I'll emerge, glorious and fit! Haha! I want it to seem to people like it happened overnight.0

Nope not hiding one bit & people who see me each week or even those who see me every 2nd day have noticed the whole way along.0

YES!!!! i haven't seen anyone but my boyfriend since July0

I started to avoid going places with certain people (enablers), because they know that I'm making changes in my life. I want them to notice that I have a little more energy, my clothes fit a little bit better, and my skin is a little bit clearer every time they see me.
These are people who try to challenge my methods, and who think that I'm doing things wrong, when they just keep gaining more and more weight, and then try to lose it fast with programs like HMR, only to gain it all back in a few weeks.
I am looking forward to my family seeing me in December. If my weigh loss stays at a consistent 5-6lbs per month, I should be another 15lbs lighter, and a total of 30lbs lighter than the last time they saw me.0 -
Yes! Somehow I don't even want to tell people I am trying to lose weight. In one year or so, I want them to be amazed0

Yes, I want it to be a surprise.0

I'm not hiding from anyone .. but I also don't see many people unless they come visit. I work from home, so tend to only spend time with the in-home family, all two of them (plus our plethora of random visitors.) Neither of them even know I'm doing anything different, other than occasionally mentioning aerobics and the prod here and there to get a gym membership. We all eat the same things, and I don't eat any less than I did before ... I just eat better stuff, and don't snack on junk as often as I used to!
One of these days I'm sure my boyfriend will notice, I'm curious to see how long it takes. My guess is ... sometime around Christmas .. I'm just not sure of which year, lol.0 -
nope, i like having a social life. Plus, my close friends are pretty supportive, and we talk about my goals and doing some fun fitness things together like 5ks and what not.0

I'm not hiding, but sometimes I wish I could.
I ended up in class in college with a couple of the "mean girls" from high school. One looked at me and said "you got... bigger" and I wanted to shout at her, "you should have seen where I started!!"
I'm still 50 pounds from my high school weight, so I should have expected it, but it suuuuucked. I wish I hadn't run into them until, like, a year from now, where I feel I could be well BELOW my high school weight!0 -

This is about how I feel...I want people to notice, but not overly so, not going on and on about it. I want them to be like "You're back! And you look beautiful!"...and that's it. No stupid, intrusive questions or acting amazed that I finally got back in shape... just some low key appreciation...and maybe a little jealousy.

Is that your gorgeous family in your ticker and picture?
You have nothing to worry about, they are probably chasing endless relationships with men who only want them because they are pretty and run off when the baggage starts to get aired.
One reason i am pleased with being overweight for a while is that i am with a man who loves me whatever FOR ME, not for how I look in a dress.x

I've never intentionally hid from anyone, but I have run into people that I haven't seen in a while. Sometimes it can be a bit awkward, especially if it takes them a while to remember who I am or to place me....but when they do.....hahaha!!!! It's awesome. Soon, I'll be flying back "home" to Oklahoma and those people have not seen me in almost 2 years. That's going to be crazy, and I look forward to it.0

Im not hiding from anyone but I am really a homebody. There are few people who I choose not to hang out with because they usually want to go out to eat and I really cant resist mexican food! Its just easier to avoid it for the time being instead of going and making a piggy of myself... And trust me there is no such thing as moderation when it comes to chips and queso for me.0

I'm not hiding, but I do find that people who see me everyday don't really notice. Or they can see that something is different, but think it is a new hair cut that is making the difference. I feel like shouting "No, it's the 2 stone and 2 dress sizes that are making the difference!"
It was nice to meet up with my friend who lives 200 miles away and I hadn't seen since Easter though as she definitely noticed and made the correct "OMG you've lost SO MUCH weight!" noises :bigsmile:0 -
Not on purpose. My mum lives overseas and I only see her once a year. She's coming in feb, hopefully she recognises me!0

Not on purpose. I have work nights and all of my friends work days. Plus I also work weekends, they don't. So sometimes a lot of time goes by, weeks, sometimes months before I see some of them.0

Not exactly hiding... More like avoiding until xmas except for a select few. I have quit the pub so I w ont be seeing anyone from there for a while, wont be posting pics or progress on facebook and wont be visiting the inlaws until xmas0

I avoid going to places and meet people only because I am afraid of falling off track. Going out and meeting people has always involved eating and drinking, so I better not put myself into that situation now until I have gained enough confidence that I can do this (lose weight). It’s only my 3rd week with MFP.0

Wow, I had to look at your pictures when I saw your ticker.... I think you're gonna have to get used to hearing WOW!!! Love the blue dress/white sandals combo
To OP, I don't intentionally avoid people but I've found that I'm not really interested in doing the same stuff I used to - I'd rather go for a good long hike these days than sit in a cocktail bar :noway: so I just don't see some people as much now... and yes, I LOVE it when I get a reaction from them when we DO meet :laugh:0 -
