Hello! I am looking for suggestions on workouts. I'm 5'3" and 188 lbs looking to lose about 50 lbs. I'm on week three of C25K and LOVING it. I have always felt like a runner, and when I thought of a type of physical activity that appealed me, running was always top. I enjoy outdoor activities, but I want to be fit so that I can enjoy them more. For example I want to hike long distances, do back country camping, even go rock climbing. This is all stuff that I either have little or no experience with but know that I want to do and is my inspiration for getting fit.

My problem is that other than running, I have a hard time staying with a program. It just does not appeal to me, or click with my personality. I keep checking out trainers on YouTube and their different programs that I see recommended around here . I tried 30 day shred, Butt Bible, BeFits Fitin90, a lot of spark people videos.. but nothing works for me. I don't think it's that I find it too difficult and give up, because I found running difficult but I love it. It's just that I can't make myself focus on the television and follow their directions. I get painfully bored. It's weird.

I do enjoy yoga. In particular there is a channel on YouTube called Yogatic that I adore. I can follow all of Ester's videos very well. I've always loved yoga anyway, having taken classes a few times in the past.

Can I get fit with running and yoga? I lack the motivation to even make myself suffer through some of these other routines, because I feel like there must be a workout out there for people like me. Right?!?!

Thanks!

Sure. Go for it. As with anything else, you have to control your diet more than your exercise. But if running and yoga are the things that get you going, there's no reason at all you can't lose 50 pounds while doing those activities on a calorie deficit.

Awesome. I really feel that my upper body need some work as I actually feel very weak in the arms. My legs and such are doing well from the running, so I was just really worried about my arms. Upper body workouts are something that I don't get a lot of with running and so on. I was hoping yoga could be beneficial to that, so thats really encouraging to hear!

I'm going to try to work through a workout routine just to say that I did it. I guess I could view this as a challenge to take on, the same way the c25k was a challenge. Except now I'm not only dealing with physical challenge but mental, haha.

The key is to find an exercise/exercises that you enjoy doing. If you don't enjoy it then you won't stick with it and it will feel like a chore.
If you are enjoying what you are doing then go for it! Anything has got to be better than nothing
