Grrr knees playing up

Just as I was getting into walking & excercising my knee is suddenly playing up. A month, BF (before FitBit), or so ago I wasn't doing anything and probably achieving 5,000 steps. Since then I have joined a gym and excercise 2 or 3 times a week, I'm now doing around 12,000 steps a day and 25 floors.

It is my left knee and doesn't hurt as such, nor do I get any real pain. Instead I am very aware of the joint, it feels larger in my mind and stiff. I've got some cold pads, support and I'm going to go easy for the next 48 hours.

Has anyone else gone through a similar sort of thing? Any advice appreciated.

Responding to my own post. I have now been to visit a sport injury physio. She quickly identified that the knee soreness or aching was a symptom of the quads not being strong enough when going from fairly little exercise to much more exercise. The patella is being pulled across my knee to the outside edge which causes the knee stiffness or aching. The resolution is a few weeks of daily strengthening exercises to improve my quads, hamstrings and buttock. Increasing the strength will stop the patella being pulled and so stop the aching pain.

Help this may help others. The physio said it is much easier to treat at the first sign of a problem than ignoring it.
