I am 51 y/o, 5'4" and at 125.8 with a goal of 125. My measurements are 24/29.5/37. The Livestrong hip to waist ratio puts me in the HIGH RISK category. I have very little "fat" on my waist. My workouts have included a rotation of light cardio with 30DS.

I do want to continue to become more fit after reaching goal and would like to start lifting. However, I can't imagine my waist getting much smaller.

I was so excited about hitting the 125s today and creeping closer to my goal, but after reading about waist to hip ratio I am concerned.

You might be surprised what happens when you start a lifting programme. Places shrink where you didn't expect it!

Do you know what your height-to-waist ratio is like? I think the hip-to-waist ratio is kind of skewed because it really depends what your natural shape is. If you're naturally very curvy, you'll have a "good" ratio, even if you have a lot of fat around your waist. If you're naturally narrower in the hips, then you won't have a good ratio, but that doesn't mean you have a lot of fat. I worry more about height-to-waist and body fat percentage.

But, yes, lifting will probably surprise you with more inch loss.

Height to waist is 46.1 and body fat 28.3.

We are very similar in our statistics. I am 55 years old, weigh 122 pounds and my measurements are 35.5"-29"-35.5". My body shape is rectangular, a "banana", and I will never have a small waistline. The best thing you can do for yourself is to start lifting weights, toning your muscle, creating curves in your shoulders, arms, legs. Include cardio also. An average of 30 minutes per day is recommended by websites like WebMD.
