Splinter help?!

For the past hour I've been trying to remove a splinter from my 6 year olds foot. I've tried pushing it with my fingers, and a very small portion of the splinter came up through the skin but now it seems to be stuck, even with trying to use tweasers. My son's tired and cranky too so even the slightest twinge of pain is causing him to scream :frown: he's too twitchy to just deal with it 'til I can pull it out, and honestly I would be too :ohwell:

Does anyone have any hints/tips/chloroform?? Any ideas on what might loosen it? I know this is an odd request but I'm kinda desperate, thanks in advance (hopefully!).

I answered on your profile - quoting it here, so that you can see it in case you are monitoring the thread:

Have you tried soaking the foot in very warm water with salt for as long as you can? It should soften the skin so it might be easier to remove it with tweezers - depending on how deep it is. My grandma used a sewing needle to slowly bring the splinter to the surface and then used tweezers to pick it up.

A couple things you can try...

Duct tape. Cover the area with duct tape and get a good tight bond, then pull it off quick in the direction of the splinter.

Elmers glue. Apply a good goop of it over the splinter and let it dry very well. Peel off in the direction of the splinter.

Both methods work for cactus spines too.
