I wanted to do the 30 day shread but we are stationed at a small base in Germany and they didn't have the DVD at the PX, so I will have to order it. I did find the Jillian Michael's Banish Fat Boost Metabolism DVD at our library so I checked it out and did it today.

Now first I have to say that I just started really getting serious about working out and eating healthy. I am 139lbs and 5'1" so I need to lost about 29lbs. I have been going to the gym and using an elliptical 30 minutes a day and have never used a workout video. It has been snowing like crazy here though and is cold so I haven't been going to the gym and thought I would try this at home.

HOLY CRAP!! I was winded just doing the warm up! I made it through the entire video (50min) but had to take breaks throughout. They do 2 sets of everything so I just did 1.

Has anyone used this video? What is the difference between the 30 day shred and this one? Has anyone who has used these seen good results?

Oh and here's a question....how do you enter it into your excercise journal? I put in 30min of general aerobics and it says I only burned 200 calories or so. That can't be true, could it? If it matters there is a lot of kickboxing in the video and I did all of that. However, there is nothing in the database for kickboxing.

I haven't used that DVD - I'm rather partial to Slim in 6 myself, always saw great results from that.

Whenever I do any excercise DVD's or a rigorous cardio session I list it as calisthenics, seems a much more appropriate burn to effort/action ratio.

    Good luck with it x

I love this video... it is challenging... Hope you don't mind, I just want to say that you need to base your ideal weight goal not on a number on the scale or Body Mass Index (which don't take into account your muscle mass) but on other factors that are more important like bone structure, body fat percentage and overall fitness level (cardiovascular, flexibility...). I am a 40yo mom of 3 and am 5'1" too, based on the amount of muscle I have and my medium bone size, I most likely will never get below 130lb but still be in a size 6 and in great shape. I'm on this site trying to shed those last 15 lbs (goal 130lb) by recording what I eat since I am already working with a personal trainer for the exercise portion but am in a little rut. So, at the gym, see if you can just speak with a trainer and get your body fat/muscle ratio done. Also an important thing is Heart Rate Training in certain zones that optimize your fat burning capability. Get a heart rate monitor and watch that will show how many calories you burn with each workout. Go from there... you may be setting that number on the scale way too low and will get frustrated for no reason! Hope this helped and good luck. As far as # of calories burned, that's what the heart rate monitor will tell you so you can record here on this site more accurately.

    I love this dvd!
The difference between 30DayShred and this, is that BFBM is more a cardio workout, while 3DS incorporates weights for added strength training. Plus, you'll burn lots more calories. It's definately super tough, but give yourself time and you'll make it straightthrough.
I use P90X also, but will do this for cardio on occasion. I don't see how one couldn't get a good workout with this dvd. A lot of people pair this with Jillian's No More Trouble Zones for strength training. I've never done that one.
The amount of calories burned will depend on a lot of things. I'm 5'0, 124. I burn between 500-700. It depends on how much effort I put in that day (some days I'll do lots of advanced moves and go faster than in the video or add some things.)
I would highly reccomend getting an HRM. It is my favorite fitness tool and purchase I do not regret. =)

    Hello,
I just bought that DVD at Costco today. I've been doing 30DS since November and LOVE it. I wanted a little more cardio though and to burn more calories. My friend (who has done both) said that it is basically all of the cardio out of all 3 levels of 30DS. I plan to do it tomorrow or the next day so I'll let you know how it compares.
When I do 30DS I track it as circuit training, but I'm not sure if that would be the case for this one too since it is a "cardio circuit" according to the back of her DVD.
    Have fun and enjoy!

I did the 30 Day Shred for 5 days and the first couple days I was sore, but I found I wasn't really sweating so wondered if I was getting enough cardio...I found the Blast Fat Boost Metabolism DVD at Walmart for $10 and WOW HOLY CARDIO...definitely sweat a bucket load. I had to stop a few times the mountain climbers on the floor were crazy and a few other moves I thought I was dying...I definitely am going to be using THIS dvd and maybe use the 30 day shred when I am pressed for time (it's 20 minutes long-25 if you count warm up and cool down)

For an accurate count on exercises for your weight and minutes here is an exercise calculator I found http://www.convertalot.com/exercise_calorie_calculator.html

    I just did it today!
  • I ordered this DVD & No more trouble zones off Amazon and should be getting them both by tomorrow! You have me excited yet scared haha. I completed Level 1 Day 2 of 30 day shred today, I definitely like it cause it's a little tough, not too long for when I have a busy day, and gets some strength training in. But I always do different cardio at night, elliptical, wii fit plus, just bought EA sports Active, I have the biggest loser 30 day jumpstart... I always try to get some different cardio in so I definitely can't wait to try this dvd!

I have a bodybugg to calculate my calories but am also looking into getting a heart rate monitor. I know for 30 day shred I enter it as circuit training because it's usually pretty accurate with the number of calories I burned

I find BFBM MUCH harder then 30DS but I have a hard time with cardio. It is all the cario from all 3 levels in 30DS and then some. Let me know what you think of it.

Yay - we can start together!!! :) I also would like to pick up NMTZ. Will you let me know what you think of it?
I FINALLY (after months of hearing about HRM's and the benefits) took the splurge and ordered one online... it should come in 1-2 weeks. Hope you're having a great day!

Okay - I got the nerve to do this workout. (I was intimidated b/c just about all of the reviews on Amazon.com describe this as very difficult for intermediate to advanced exercisers. )I've done the shred before and was getting bored, and wanted something to bump it up a notch.

So, I just gave it a whirl. The reviewers were honest, it IS hard, but not impossible. It might have been a better idea to watch the whole thing first to get an idea of what to expect. BUT - i did it! I ended up sitting out the first half of circuit 4, and the first half of circuit 6, but I'm hopeful that I can to the entire thing straight through next time with no breaks.

    Whew!

Oh my goodness - I just weighed and I lost 3 pounds since Monday!!!!! That is AMAZING considering the sloooooooooooooooooow rate at which I have been dropping weight. I've been lucky to lose a pound a month.

What did I do differently? a) increase daily calorie goal b) changed my exercise routine. I swapped out my e/o day jog for Banish Fat Boost Metabolism this week...... looks like it's working. :) Now to keep those 3 lbs GONE!!!! ;)

I agree with bb. I'm 5'1" and for years now I've been at about 130. Oh, one time I did get to a lower weight, but I looked and felt like c*** so I decided not to ever do that again. According to the BMI charts, I am overweight. Yet, I wear at least a size 6 (sometimes a 4) in pants. That BMI chart is really for someone who is totally out of shape and even then it's only a guide. My main reason for being on this site is to log my food and keep myself on target in eating healthy foods. Also, you can sometimes get some good advice. If you get a Heart Rate Monitor, be sure to get the type with the chest strap. The ones that are just a watch are pretty inaccurate. You can get one with a chest strap for not a lot of money, and it is SOOO worth it. Honestly, my HRM doesn't give me the calories burned. To me, I'm mainly concerned that one my heartrate doesn't go too high and two that I feel good. To me those are the most important things.

I didn't realize that you couldn't do all segments of the 30DS, but had to do one, go back to the main menu, do the next, go back to the main menu, do the third. I wish you could do them all one right after the other and then the cooldown. Guess it'll be good for when I don't have a lot of time to workout. I do like the No More Trouble Zones.

I don't think 30DS is meant to do all 3 at one time. I've done 2 and then 1 once and didn't find it too hard (considering how hard it is in general). I did both warm ups but didn't do the cool down on 2, I just moved back to 1 and did the warm up again.

I LOVE my HRM, so glad I got it. At 197 lbs I burn almost 600 (over if I really put my all into it) doing BFBM! Totally worth it to me! I would have to do an hour on the elliptical to do that.

I did BFBM once or twice and then waited a week and did it again. I did the whole thing with only stopping once (high knees the first circuit). I find if I take about a week off with one of her DVDs I come back stronger and kick more butt. I do love the results with this DVD. Good job with your 3lbs, that's AWESOME!!!!!!

I just bought her Cardio Kickboxing DVD. I watched it (with the sound off) so I'm not too sure about it. It has all the kickboxing from BFBM and then some. It looks like they were more concerned with wardrobe then practicing, but I have to actually do it and listen to it to see if that's true. It comes with some added bonus feature too like recipe's, a work out log and some nutritional information. I hope it's not as commercial as some of the other DVDs where they are advertising specific foods. I also got a coupon code for 10% off anything (not Beachbody items) from Totalfitnessdvds.com, which is cool.
