Romance gone wrong

There's a lot of romantic comedies that show all the stuff that can go wrong in romance. But I'm sure everyone has some examples of their own.

Here's mine:
My boyfriend helped me get an internship for a project I really liked. So I thought to thank him with a single red rose, but a really really nice one. I worked part time at the flower auction at that time and saw a few million roses daily, this was a really really nice one (and expensive). So I came to his house (he was still living with his parents at the time), he opened the door, I told him how happy I was with his help and that I'm just plain crazy about him and gave him the rose.... Or tried to, because his response was 'Oh, yeah, you can give that to my parents, they like that stuff'.

Uhr... Not the response I was expecting. So tried to give it to him again saying I got it especially for him. But nope, his parents were married for 28(?) years that day and I should give it to them. Right. Since he didn't take the rose from me I had no real other option than to give it to his parents. Which was very awkward! His parents looked quite awkward as well, a single red rose is like a very romantic thing, not a gift to someones parents that you've only seen a few times. Afterwards his mom asked him why I gave them a rose, because she thought it was sooo weird!

Now it's an old story we'll retell at valentines day, but he's never again gotten any roses from me
