I'm an obese 19 year old girl living in Calgary, Alberta. In a nutshell, I've been overweight/obese since age 3. My mom has also struggled with her weight for her whole life and not to be mean, but I do not want to follow in her footsteps. She's always either on a diet, or saying she's going to start one "on Monday." She's done Atkins, calorie counting, no sugar, excessive exercise, Weight Watchers, and extreme calorie restricting. Also, she's tried countless diet pills such as Hydroxy Cut, HCG, Hoodia and green tea cleanses etc. She's still overweight, and unhappy.
I want to do this SLOWLY, and as much as that is kind of an excuse for not wanting to give it 150% right now, I do want to do this WHOLLY. I'm aiming to lose between 5-10 pounds a month, but I know it'll be closer to 5. That's okay, as long as I'm really just eating to eat, and not to soothe any pain. I've abused food for a very, very long time. I've also pretended not to be hungry in the face of skinny people, and hid food in all sorts of places so that I could eat in private. In the last year, I've had the worst eating habits of my life. I got my first full-time job and found myself eating for pure pleasure, and not for any nutritional benefit whatsoever. I'd stop at Safeway before going home and buy chocolate bars, pizza pops, cookies, chips, and pop. I'd finish the chocolate before I even got home, and the rest was devoured quickly after. I hated my job, my life, my body, and it got worse once I weighed in 40 pounds heavier than the year before.
That was in July 2012. Since then I've lost 11 pounds from quitting my job and becoming unable to afford spending $20 on junk food, several times a week (on top of grocery trips.) I also moved to a new city where I feel like I can start fresh, and so that's what I'm doing. I start a new job on Monday, and my new tracking habits start today.
I really hope I can find people that have experienced food addiction like I have, so that we can support each other when times are tough.
Thanks for becoming a friend!

Good luck Hun, for your new job, and your new healthy life. I to have done many of the things you have said, but it's hard to say it out loud, I once said about hiding chocolate bars from the family in a slimming class and the look I got, you may have thought I'd kill someone. ( like they hadn't done, yeh right) any way Hun good luck stay strong x0

You sound like you've got a good head on your shoulders. It's better to focus on the healthy lifestyle change than trying the latest weight loss fad and ending up a yo-yo dieter.
And your username made me smile.0
