I have had a bad cold for nearly a week and managed at first to eat my calories. I have struggled more and more as the week goes on. I managed breakfast today and a banana but just dont feel like food, my nose is streaming and I feel rubbish. I know I should keep up nourishment to try and fight off the cold but just dont fancy food
What do all you MFP'ers out there recomend, I have been thinking of maybe taking liquid meals whilst I feel poorly just to get my calories etc

I wouldn't worry about it too much. You'll be feeling better and have your apetite back soon! Make sure to stay hydrated and eat what sounds good to you when you can.0

SchoozyQ'a advice is right on. Often, when fighting off illness, eating one's usual food is too great of a strain on the body, because it's marshalling its resources to deal with the illness, especially if there is any low-grade fever present. There's a reason sick animals refuse food - their bodily instinct tells them they need to refrain from food until they feel better. But do keep up with liquids - diluted juices, herbal teas, etc. - maybe even some very simple chicken noodle soup(home-made is preferable but do whatever you can). Don't discount the value of water-containing foods either - fresh fruit is a prime example, with its own structured water that is the finest for the body to absorb and use, not to mention the co-factors in the fruit. An orange might just hit the spot! Feel better soon!:)0

Thanks, I was reading on here about going into starvation mode through not eating enough. I will have soups and water for a couple of days and see how I feel. I hate being ill though0

Right now, don't worry about "starvation mode" - get better first, and eat lightly as indicated above. Your body has other things to deal with right now - you'll have plenty of time to get back into your normal routine once you feel better. A drastically-reduced amount of food due to a short-term, non-chronic illness doesn't hurt anyone. After all, one can live off of one's fat for awhile, even those of us who don't have a lot to lose. And even if we do lose a little too much during said illness, it's a no-brainer to gain it back LOL!0
