Is high protein bad?

I go over on my protein every day!!! I'm just doing some cardio exercises, so I'm kinda worries it may make me gain weight instead of lose. I usually go over from 5-20 a day. Just want to know if this could end up being a bad thing, or is it something I shouldn't worry about?

It won't hurt you. Protein fills you up, makes you 'feel' full, so you don't eat as much other, less desirable nutrients. It doesn't turn to fat or any other icky thing. Whatever you don't need is just discarded by your body.0

I wouldn't worry about it at all! MFP has its protein set really low, making it easy to go way over. A general rule of thumb is that you should eat about 1g of protein for every pound you weigh (eg, if you weigh 130lbs you should aim for about 130g of protein a day). I personally prefer a macronutrient breakdown of 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat (which for me works out pretty close to 1g protein/lb). But of course, please do your own research, there is no perfect breakdown and everyone's body requirements are different!0

I wouldn't worry too much. If you are exercising your body will need the protien to repair the muscle tissue. If you start to gain wieght try to lessen your intake. I'm sure you will do fine though!0

If it fits into your calories then you are going to be just fine.0

As another member said, MFP sets their protein allowance too low. I used to worry about it too, but, still managed to lose most of the weight that I wanted to. Sooo, unless you're WAY, WAY over, you won't have to worry. (I've heard that WAY too much can effect your kidneys) but 20 over sure shouldn't do it.

I go over every day to, and I know alot of the protein I get come from healthy things like oatmeal. I feel fuller when I eat proteins and less sluggish than when I eat too many carbs. I read where some people go in and adjust their protein up on mfp.0
