I don't like tuna...

I've never really cared for tuna. My mom would mix it with mayo and put it on bread. But I thought I would go ahead and try the packaged lemon zest tuna, and I still dont really care for it. It's better than plain, whats a way I can try to jazz it up a little?

If you don't like it, there are plenty of other types of fish you can eat instead. I like fresh tuna, but I don't much like canned tuna, so I don't eat it. There's no point in jazzing up food you don't like, when there are lots of other foods you can eat that you do like.0

I pretty much don't like anything that came out of the sea, YUCK.0
-
I agree--why eat something you don't like?0
-
Tuna, is disgusting. there is no way to spice it up and make it better.0
-
Don't eat it. When you're watching what you're eating you should make every calorie count - both nutritionally AND tastewise - otherwise you'll get fed up and be more likely to sack it off.
However, if you're still going to force yourself to eat it how about tuna mayo with pesto? Seriously yum. I can eat tuna, drained, plain out of the can but a lot of times I drench it in a really good balsamic vinegar to give it some flavour./sweetness
But if I was you I'd eat chicken or eggs or something else0 -
White tuna packed in water has almost no flavor and will pick up what you add - oil packed is stronger especially the italian tuna.
Minced onion, celery, miracle whip and sweet pickle relish for sandwiches.
rice casserole - rice cooked with cream of mushroom soup, diced onions. diced peppers, garlic, tuna, - add either peas or brocoli for the last 10-15 minutes.
Above can be made with noodles as well.
sub canned tuna in you chicken croquet's recipe0 -
I mix it with hummus. It's especially good with roasted red pepper hummus.
But I agree with the other posters. If you don't like it and never really have, don't force yourself to eat it.0 -
Unless it's a rare tuna steak or, rarer still, sushi, it all tastes like fish flavoured sawdust to me. Sorry, I've got nothing.0
-
Don't eat it. I hate pork chops and I'm not going to try to jazz them up. There's a million other things to enjoy.0
-
Well, I love it, either tinned or fresh! But I agree, there's no point trying to make yourself eat something you don't like. Yes it's great protein, but you can get them same from other sources (how are you with other fish, say, or chicken breast, cottage cheese, soy beans, eggs....)0
-
You know what I found? Chicken breast that comes in a can just like tuna! I love it and it doesn't have that fishy taste. I mix mine with buffalo sauce and melt some cheese on it. Awesome.0

Like the others, I'd say if you don't like it, don't eat it!
But if it's not a dislike, but the fact that it's bland with just mayo, add other stuff.
Basic tuna for me has always been mayo and sweet pickle relish. Dill works too.
Other add ins (not necessarily all together):
Chopped hard boiled egg (more protein!)
Chopped celery
Green onion
Avocado
Curry
Raisins or grapes
Chopped bell peppers, any color, grilled, roasted or raw
Top it with fresh tomato and crisp lettuce.
Or put it on toast, add a slice of tomato and cheese, put it under the broiler to melt the cheese.
Or like the last poster said, use chicken instead! :bigsmile:0 -
this recipe (for tuna steaks, not canned tuna) is amazing...

I do cut way way down on the cream - in fact I use 1/2 c of half-and-half rather than the 1.5 c of whole cream in the recipe to make it less ridiculous.0 -
I find tuna canned in water inedible. I get the stuff in oil and then drain & rinse it a bit.
I use mayo & finely chopped celery & green onion, & fresh dill if I can find it.0 -
Tuna, peas, carrots, broccolli and mash with white sauce in the over for 40 minutes. I hate tuna but I LOVE this0
-
I like the sundried tomato flavored tuna on toast with mustard. I hate mayo. If you hate tuna in general, just don't eat it though. I hate chicken and don't eat it.0
-
I hate tuna. I've tried to it seasoned every way you can imagine and the tuna taste is still over powering. Why do you feel the need to eat something you dont like when there are plenty of other foods with the same benifits that you might like more?0
-
I didn't used to like tuna either. It's grown on me, though.
Make a tuna casserole, maybe? It should mask the flavor enough to be tolerable. That's how I got started. I eat it rarely, but I do eat it. And the lemon zest is my favorite, although I do prefer to make my own rather than buy the store bought.0 -

Same Here, none of it
But force myself to eat some of the lighter fish because nothing else is so high in protein, low in fat and low in calories.
.....and guess what, esp for people who say "i don't eat veggies" we CAN eat foods we don't like!!!! I eat Tilapia ( or bassa or rainbow trout or....) and life goes on!!!!  :laugh:0 -
I love tuna when it's raw as sashimi, or a fresh tuna steak. I don't mind it canned, but it's not my preferred way of eating it.
My favourite think to do with canned is a healthy tuna melt - I mix it with some light mayo, dijon mustard, tarragon, lemon juice and some hot sauce. Sometimes add diced celery and/or zucchini, and then broil it on some bread with slices of old cheddar on top.0 -
Make patties out of it.
Mix a can of tuna with a mashed up sweet potato and a whole egg (to bind it) and bake it in the oven - or pan fry it, whatever you like. Spice the mix up with some curry powder. Tastes great.0 -

Okay, that sounds delicious. That's dinner tomorrow sorted.0 -
I'm pretty weird about tuna. The only way I'll eat it is the way my mom made it when I was little. Tuna from the can with mayo, sweet relish and chunks of apple mixed in. I don't like it any other way, but I will eat the ever loving daylights out of it that way!0
-
Don't eat it, there is nothing in tuna that you can't get in other foods - canned tuna is not a source of long chain omega-3s, eat pilchards/ sardines, salmon, herring or mackerel instead.0
-
I think it's kind of funny how many people are telling you to just not eat it! If you're asking for other ways to prepare it you clearly have an interest in eventually enjoying it.
I for one didn't enjoy broccoli, salads, pretty much any healthy food at first, my palate had to adjust.
Anyways, I'm watching this thread, as I don't like canned/packaged tuna either but I want to learn to like it! It's so easy to transport, easy to prepare.

try canned chicken0
-
I will gag if I smell Tuna - you can definetly live without it. Although I do like fresh Tuna Steaks. Try another fish or just have chicken0

I'm hooked on tuna melts lately. I mix the tuna with sabra hummus instead of mayo. The supremely spicy or spinach and artichoke hummus with a little sriracha for some extra kick. It's awesome0
-
I wasn't a fan until I tried some from aldi. It's sweet chilli tuna in little mini cans. It's amazing and I love it... Great Little. Protein hit and lots of goodness I'm there x0
-
Sooooooooo why are you eating it?0
