Safety on dark country road...

I live on a dark country road with houses scattered about..lots of dogs and random people..I want to get up and run early in the morning when it's still dark out but I am a bit afraid..can anyone give me things i can do to ensure my safety (other than my cell phone which i will have but does not good if a dog attacks me or a coyote)

I get up every morning at 3:45 to walk. I take my pepperspray with me. You could walk with a big stick...I live in the country too.

I'm assuming the traffic's pretty sparse but you might want to look into one of those hats with a light on it for visibility (so you can see and so others can see you). I've seen the clip ons that attach to the bill of your cap (at Family Dollar) or you can get a cap with them built right in...
