Dealing with ED triggers on MFP

I've seen it; I'd been a member of ED "recovery" groups, all of which I left because there was hardly any support (or urging) for recovery.
But I just came across a whole group of people on MFP (someone posted with an outrageous weight loss ticker and avatar, and it spiraled into me looking at a friendslist with usernames with every form of "ana" or "mia") who occasionally comment, or even not at all... but have daily calorie settings of 700 or 500, goals for bmis of "15" or "14," and absolutely triggering pictures
I'm not one for censorship, but it always boggles my mind how a site that promotes healthy fitness and eating allows the site to be used this way. I know topics get banned for promoting ED/unhealthy behaviors on the main forums, but it's allowed on personal boards?
So I guess i"m just wondering... does anyone else ever feel they need support AFTER looking on MFP? Need support in dealing with the ED triggers that come with not only trying to lose weight and count calories in general, but from the numerous people on here who are openly abusing the site?

Hi beautiful, I totally understand what you're saying. Coming from someone who's recently started recovery from anorexia, it is HORRIBLE when these message boards show up on the side when you're trying to log your food innocently. I usually make sure that I stay away from looking at the message board too much. There's nothing we can really do about the triggers. MFP staff really do try their hardest to block/delete threads like these, but it can get overpowering and if it's on a personal board, it's even harder for them. If you're getting triggered try to not look at the message boards, log your food/water, check your home and then log off! xx0
