  • I have a friend that loves Sunwarrior but I haven't been able to fit it into my budget so I use the Walmart Body Fortress stuff. Sometime I splurge on the Isolate for after workout.

I am going to start a new thread about http://www.sunwarrior.com/

I've been looking into getting a protein powder either whey or soy protein. I'm looking for something cheap, affordable, and for everyday use. Is there any products that are low in carbs and sugar, and helps build muscle?! I have been looking at 100% Whey Gold Standard, and Lean Dessert Protein BSN. I'm still not exactly sure how to shop for protein powders so if anyone can help me out, and give me options of what they use. Thanks! :flowerforyou:

I've been using Jillian Michaels Natural Whey Protein shake mix. I absolutely love the vanilla ( i havent tried the other flavors yet) for a scoop its only 100 calories, 7g of carbs, and has 15g of protein. It also doesnt have any artificial perservatives or sweetners. I want to say I get around 13-14 scoops per container and you can find it at your local walmart for $10. If you have certain macros youre wondering about it is already in MFP food database.

I just started using BiPro 100% Whey Protein Isolate. $49.99 online for a 2lb tub but they have promotions pretty frequently. 20g protein, 80 calories, 0 carbs, 0 sugar, 0 fat. It's unflavored so you can add it to just about anything (or anything to it). I use powdered PB2 (chocolate peanut butter) and water for a protein shake but it would make a great protein smoothie too with some skim milk and fruit. They have recipes on their website too.

Syntha 6 & Gold Standard are what I've been recommended by several people. I picked up 2 5lb tubs of Syntha 6 on sale for about $35 each. I got both chocolate & vanilla and they both taste good with water & milk.

You can price the stuff at Walmart, and it's probably not much cheaper than the ones listed above if you shop around. Here in Houston/Austin we have Nutrition Depot. I checked but they don't seem to do online sales, which is too bad as they usually have really good prices.

Check around and find all your local suppliment stores & smoothie shops.

Do they make one that is NOT flavored? I would like to be able to add protein to foods without altering the flavor. The option to add it to savory foods would be nice.

I use Vega One...it's a Vegan protein powder that I mix with ice water for 123 calories. I use the natural flavour. 15g protein, 6g of fiber with greens and antioxidants plus it's a low GI. I love it. It's about $40 though for a tub.

I found this one: North Coast Naturals - 100% Iso Protein (Whey) at Real Canadian Superstore in Canada.

    http://www.northcoastnaturals.com/products/isoprotein.php

Low lactose, low sodium, no soy, low cholesterol, tastes good, 24g protein per scoop.
    Chocolate, vanilla, unflavoured.
    I got 908g/2lbs. for $29.00
Saw it in Bulk Barn for $34.00

I go with whey protein, because I'm wary of adding too much soy to my diet. Because it's from cow milk, I'm also wary of the added hormones, pesticides, etc., so I pay attention to that part of the equation -- all of that is to say, I won't offer specific recommendations, because we're looking for different things, and I've only tried the ones that meet my criteria. BUT, when you do find one you like, there are a lot of GREAT subscribe & save deals on Amazon, where you can get an additional discount for subscribing to regular shipments of your product. I've done this in the past with no problems -- I've even cancelled after my first shipment, with no problems. So it's easy to stop if you change your mind, but a great way to save extra money (especially if you've already got free shipping).

My favorite for cooking with (protein pancakes, protein bars etc..) is Sunwarrior Rice Protein, it's gluten free with nothing artificial in it. For shakes and mixing in with my oatmeal etc..I like Amp Wheybolic Cookies & Cream or About Time Birthday Cake Whey Isolate, all three have some BCAA's in them.

I am looking at the same. Do you use these as meal replacements or in addition to your diet? Do they help with recovery?

its really only of use if your trying to build muscle. Works as a meal replacement, and if your male and your trying to get in 200-300G of protein a day, that is kind of hard to do eating a bunch of food.
  • Great options everyone!!!! I've bought the Body Fortress Cookies and Cream, but next month I'm buying 100% Whey Gold Standard Cookies & Cream!!! :D Thanks everyone.

Same here, I have used the Jillian Michaels one, but I couldn't stand the flavor; and the other one I have tried is this one http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10963292

I liked the flavor, but one day, the salesperson at GNC told me about the amp wheybolic, so I purchased 3 flavors (strawberry, vanilla and chocolate). Because I'm new to protein powders, I buy them in the 1.22 lb pouch so I can rotate faster between brands.

And I didn't got deep into the differences between whey, casein or soy, I might try those in the future.
