Can you do this without weighing yourself??

Hi, any words of advice would be welcome! I had bulimia when I was younger and have occasionally relapsed.. I want to finally lose weight the proper way and have been on here for a few weeks. Unfortunately I have a phobia of the scales and feel that if I weigh myself the cold hard truth will send me right back down there and will either become obsessive and harm myself more or will just give up. Is it possible to lose weight effectively without charting your weight loss on the scales????

sure use measurements or a pair of target size jeans instead, maybe.

I would recommend just focusing on fitness improvement and eating healthier foods, and maybe try using a tape measure to track your progress if you won't become obsessive about that.

Don't rule out professional help if you need it along the way, or if you truly have a significant amount of weight you should lose.

Yes! A better way to gauge success is to track your measurements. Go to My Home>>Check-in. You can also add other body parts or measures things like hip-to-waist ratio or BMI.

Wishing you the best of luck!

The scale is not the only measure. It is important to determine what is an appropriate amount of calories for you to eat, but for tracking progress, your tape measure and body fat % measurements are more important. In my opinion.

Sure, watch the measurements of your clothes. I lost 4 pant sizes in 6 months.

Absolutely. I accidentally killed my scales by pouring - uh, dropping - a pitcher of water on it when I was about halfway through my 55 pound weight loss. I took it as a good thing, because I was obsessing a bit about weigh-ins. So I get where you're coming from.

I lost the rest of the weight by just trying to eat well and exercise moderately. I think it's a very healthy way to do it. Freeing.

    Good luck!
  • if you want to chart your progress i'd say keeping track of your weight is a pretty big part of it. i don't know what it's like to have a phobia of scales but.. is it an option to set specific days for you to weigh yourself? e.g. weigh yourself twice a month, that's it.. no more. in fact don't keep a scale at your place, do it somewhere you have to travel to like a friend's or relative's house.

alternatively, you could keep track of measurements. but having easy access to a tape measure might turn an old obsession into a new one.

at the end of the day you know yourself best. if you prefer not to weigh or measure yourself to stay far away from the path that lead you to bulimia, don't! keep track of your fitness level and whether or not you're eating healthy, that's what's most important. :)
