Way too much protein?

So, I logged in my whole day's food plan, and I am significantly over on fats and protein (-20 and -41 respectively) but 75 calories and 107 g carbs UNDER my goals. Honestly, I am not sure this is necessarily a bad thing, considering I really want my muscle tone to show (right now I am very fit but it is kind of hidden under the 20 pounds I am trying to lose). What do you think?

Oh, and for the record, my protein foods have been: 1 egg, 2 slices turkey bacon, 1/4 c. low fat shredded cheese (breakfast); 3 oz flank steak (lunch); and 5 oz. grilled wild salmon (dinner) This has all been accompanied by fresh veggies, low-carb wheat tortillas and tonight I plan on some salad dressing.....This is all great stuff, no?

If you're using the default MFP macro rations where protein is 15% then going over that is "fine and dandy" barring any underlying health issues - which if you have them you likely know from your MD to watch your protein.

I had to change my protein to 35% to get it close to my goal which is 1 gram per lb of my lean body mass... 175 grams a day... that's my goal, i certainly don't get it every day.

How do you calculate lean body mass? Is that your goal weight? I think I'll increase mine too, because my goal is definitely to look more "cut." I didn't realize that about the defaults! Where did you learn that? And thanks!!

my home > goals > change goals > custom
you can see what the macro percentages are set to, also the micronutrient targets. Lean body mass I got the last time I went through some testing, it may be different but it gives me a number to start with anyway.

Ok, so I changed my goals to 40c/30f/30p and was still way over on fat, so I changed my dinner plan from salmon to chicken breast for tonight and that helped. I am so glad you told me about all of those settings - I had no idea how customizable this is. I also started tracking fiber and sugar. I am much happier with my goals now!

Protein is good for you. I try to do a 40/40/20 split myself (Protein/Fat/Carbs).

Thank you Carol! I just joined up yesterday, and I am a former Weight Watcher, so I have to reprogram my mind. I reset my goals to be even more extreme, because I think that is what will work best for me. This is the first day I have actually stuck completely to my eating plan, and I am (hallelujah!!) not hungry at all. Of course, I am a veteran and I know I am still in the "honeymoon" stage of it all. But once I start to see results it will definitely fuel my fire.
