I've been dyeing for years. Started going gray in high school. By 25, I was verging on salt and pepper. Now at 34, I'm a lot more salt and a lot less pepper. I'm tired of dyeing my hair. It really is a hassle.

I've been giving serious thought to letting the gray go, but I have not quite worked out how I want to make that transition yet.

If mine were just in the front instead of an all over gray, I would probably have already owned it by now.

I say die it completely shocking white and tell everyone it was like that when you woke up this morning.

I think it depends on the grey and the person. Some are a fabulous shade of silvery gorgeousness and some just wash your whole complexion out. I have a friend that started greying in her mid 30's and she owned it and gets SO many compliments. I've seen other folks who really look better with a perked up color.

I started getting gray hair when i was in the third grade, by time I was 13 I was dyeing it. Now at 31, I'm kinda tired of constantly having to do it. I've been debating for a while letting it go to at least see what it looks like, but I always in up buying dye and doing it again. I have a 5 yr old and an 8 yr old, I don't want to look like a grandma!!

Ah, but after the introduction, you can let it go natural.

I've been slowly going grey since my early 20s (41 now) and I've coloured my hair for longer than that - every once in a while I stop for a bit to see what shade of grey I've got going on. My natural colour is a medium brown so with the shade of grey mixed in I have what I call dead mouse fur coloured hair - so I colour it - when it's more silver / white I'll leave it alone.

My mom refuses to colour her hair - says she earned each grey and for her to start now would be stupid since she's been grey for so long but I've also got an aunt that's 93 yrs old and she still colours her hair all the time - she's just lightened up the shade a bit the last few years.

I have been sprouting a few greys here and there for the past few years... and I thank the dear Lord of John Frieda and his brunette glaze... I want to be a little bit older than 31 before I allow the greys to take hold... it took me forever to love my natural hair color and then when I finally did start loving it greys started popping in very slowly about 10 years ago.. :-| Oh well, my mom was all grey at my age.

I say own it! Its a part of getting older and wiser. Even more so on men. Those *kitten* get better with age......:grumble:

Yeah but more of them tend to lose it too... my dad greyed (is that even the correct spelling?) gracefully, even into his 50's he isn't all grey... but him (and my youngest brother) are both balding horribly...

It depends how it looks on you specifically. Some people look amazing and still young with gray hair. Some people look really old with it.

It really is up to you. For me coloring is a pain but I am SO not ready to go gray (I'm only a couple of years older than you).

If you are worried about damage, you could try using henna or a vegetable dye from a health food store.

It's not an either/or for me. Some months I dye it away, some months I rock the Reed Richards. Depends how I feel.

I started getting silvers in my late teens and have been a faithful dyer ever since. I now do permanent colours, and do them myself as my hair grows quickly so the roots are crazy to maintain (and would be way to expensive to get it done professionally)!!

Every few weeks when my hair falls in a 'part' my husband always quips that it's 'the parting of the grey sea'...jerk lol.

I swore I would not go down without a fight!!! You are young yet - I say dye it!!

I am soon to be 50 and the dye only lasts a month now - I can't afford to keep buying the stuff - so I have conceeded a little. However if we are going somewhere on a vacation or something - I then try to color it again. . . a little vain? I guess so - but it makes me feel better about myself.

i started going grey at 23, now at 44 i dye my hair pink! growing older disgracefully and outrageously is a must!!!!!
seconded! I started going grey at 19 and dyed my hair for years. Let it grow out completely about three years ago and I looked dreadful, very tired and drawn looking.

I went purple last year, aged 43, and I get a lot of comments from complete strangers saying 'I just have to say how much I liove your hair, and how much it suits you'. I shall be purple for the forseeable future

I'm 28 and I noticed maybe like 2 years ago that I had a couple grays near the scalp. All right, no big deal. I dye my hair regularly anyway. I got pregnant and didn't dye my hair for a while. Now, I don't know if it's hormonal changes from pregnancy (I talked to the doc about it, and he said there's no connection), but I was in a very bright bathroom and I was SHOCKED at the gray in my hair. I showed it to my mom and she was SHOCKED as well as to how much gray there really was. I'm convinced that the shocking level of gray is due to pregnancy but the doc said no. So, since I'm only 28, I'm going to continue dying my hair. I think when I hit like 35 or maybe a bit older, when the gray really sets in, I'm going to stop dying in. But I'm really not sure. I think ladies who have really nice silver hair look good. I don't want a dull flat ugly gray.

I find the gun metal gray color of my hair to be singularly unattractive. I don't mind the white, but that godawful bleck grey in the back...so dull and unbecoming, I choose to dye until it all turns white. I used to have such lovely brown hair... *sigh*

I was grey at 34 and I mean completely grey! I dye it, I change the colour according to my mood, light blonde in summer, now light brown, sometimes with highlights. I am so used to it, I love it that way.

I like to dye mine, then let the dye wear off, then dye it again. I get carded at the casino when it's freshly dyed!
