-The body needs saturated fats because saturated fats make up the membrane wall of cells
-Saturated fats should make up 10 % of your total calories
-B12 is not found in dirt, however a {similar} substance to B12 is.
-America's proportion sizes have been blown up off the plate. Resulting in what they call the obesity epidemic
-trans fat is the unnecessary and bad fat.
-Red meat is reduces likely hood of depression. Weird, huh?
-Too much of anything can kill you.
-Too much fruit gives one the runs
-I discovered I'm actually a super taster.

Interesting--I've never considered the difference between trans and saturated fats. Thanks!0

Same here. I always knew saturated fats were somewhat unavoidable but I didn't know your body needed it because I was taught they were bad.0

yes and it has spread around the world. started with large popcorn then mcdonalds now everything is super size. the americans have a lot to answer to, of and then theres fructose syrup the killer that gets you hooked.0 -
Hooray for Bio!
About the red meat, some sources say that low iron levels can be a factor in depression... so that might have something to do with it0 -
True that but there is too much as well. I found a way to know how much you're body needs.
If you go to supertracker.usda.gov you can make an account and it will allow you to track how much iron you need.0 -
-Saturated Fats are solids, meaning it can be cut off reducing the amount of saturated fat on meat
what that means someone who eats meat will get heart disease and that does not mean they have issues with their cholesterol. as long the meat they eat is lean and are not eating the fat directly.
-Meat is not the only thing with saturated fats
-Too much of anything is bad.
-Getting the runs all the time causes you to lose electrolytes because you lose water.
-Too much water can cause internal drowning.0 -

A little (very little) bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing... First, it's America's "Portion sizes" not "Proportions" that cause obesity.0 -

Gah! Thanks! Didn't realize what I did there!
Do you mind elaborating?
Also I meant in the other post just above. Just because someone eats meat does not mean they will get heart disease.0 -
-Animal Protein and Plant Protein are different, both are essential waiting for an elaboration from the teacher.
-Protein whether it be animal or plant;if you don't use protein or go above the your protein requirements it becomes fat. Meaning your protein shakes unless your doing extreme activities is harming more than helping you.0 -

Total change in fat stores is the difference between acute fat storage and acute fat oxidation (i.e. you're fluctuating between periods of storage and periods of oxidation and the net difference between the two, over time, is what really matters). In order for storage to exceed oxidation you need a caloric surplus over the course of time. Using your above example, one could exceed protein needs substantially but still eat in a calorie deficit, which would not result in net fat gain.0 -

America's portion sizes are ONE of the reasons for the obesity epidemic.
Too much fiber gives one the runs. Fruits are high in fiber. So are a lot of other things.0 -

-Something about life. Life causes death and taxes.
-ALERT: They continue to tax you after death. You just aren't there to experience the misery.
-There is no one form of protein.0 -
Raw Meat: At one point we used to eat meat raw but when man discovered fire, he realized it didn't spoil as fast. The same as when he discovered spices dried out meat. Less water meant less spoilage. There are still some groups that eat meat raw. One is located in Ethiopia. Reason we eat meat cooked is because we grew up with it.
Meat promotes the growth of the brain. Nuts and fish allow for development. One without the other and we would be actually quiet slow.0 -

Not entirely accurate. If you eat more protein than you require it is actually converted to blood sugar (gluconeogenesis). This can either be burned as energy or converted to fat - it will only be converted from glucose to bodyfat if you don't need those calories, ie. you overate. The process is inefficient, there is a thermic effect of digesting protein so calories are wasted as heat, more calories are wasted during gluconeogenesis, and more calories wasted again converting it to fat. The body cannot store spare protein (amino acids) as it can carbs and fat, other than in the muscles. So if you don't eat enough protein or not often enough the body will break down muscle.
If your teacher is saying that protein powders without training is harmful they are lacking in nutrition knowledge, many people use modest amounts as part of breakfast smoothies with a huge amount of fruits and veggies simply to make a meal that contains a balance of proteins and carbs. Most Western breakfasts are carb heavy and protein light - bearing in mind you have fasted all night where else is your body going to get amino acids from if not from breakfast? The muscles.
Note that I don't support my nutrition clients or anyone here using protein shakes as daily meal replacements, only as a supplement within a meal/ diet that contains wholefoods.0 -

I'm a supertaster too! It's why I'm so fussy, unfortunately...0 -

Well, thanks Firefox for the explanation. It was a little more detailed than my teacher's and I's.
Moosycakes I feel your pain. I'm fussy too.0
