Why am I not losing fat?

I'm 5'5" and 130 pounds, I know I'm not necessarily fat but I would like to shed some extra fat from my thighs and stomach. MFP has set my calories to 1200 because I am sedentary (I'm mostly sitting down through out the day.)

For exercise I run 5-6 miles a day, and about three days a week instead of running I take a cycling class at my gym which is one hour long. I also strength train about five days a week.

Since I am fairly active I eat 1,500 calories instead of 1,200. But I am not losing, I'm pretty much maintaining right now. It's so frustrating because I eat well and push myself in the gym but am not seeing any results. Btw, I don't weigh myself often, I prefer to go by what I see in the mirror, and I see no changes.

My diary is open so feel free to take a look. I usually eat the same foods often. I don't log in my exercise so it will say I'm going over my 1200 limit. Thanks for any advice :)

I'm no expert, but it looks like you aren't eating enough. For the amount you are wanting to lose and how small you are already, you need to be eating more, especially with how much you are exercising.

I only looked at one week of your diary, but you never once hit 1500, and most of the time you were at 1200 calories. I think you need to eat more. I keep seeing this over and over on the forums, people who work out hard several days a week and have lower calorie intakes. The scale gets stuck. Just saying.

I agree with everyone else. I was under-eating for over a year and had no idea what was going on. I finally upped my calories and the weight and fat are literally just falling off. If you need some help with this, feel free to message me!!

Then it's not weight you want to lose, it's body fat percentage. Pick up some weights. :)

I'm low 130's exercise 4-5 days a week, I have to stay at 1200-1300 cals to drop weight too. If I eat anything over 1800 I gain.

According to my Venus Index Body Centric Eating guide you are spot on.

    5’5” 113 – 144 Lbs. 130 Lbs. ( 1,300 Calories )

Seems to me like you are too hard on yourself and you would benefit from a full body weight training workout 3 days a week.

  • Oh I'm liking this thread. So basically you need to eat more if you want to lose fat.

I think everyone here is looking at the wrong thing...

Quick question, how much have your lifts improved or your run times improved over the last month? I'm taking a guess that they have not. If you're just doing the same old thing every day, why would you expect your body to adapt further?
