Cardio vs Strength Training

Look, you need a well rounded fitness plan. The problem with simple running or cardio machines is the body will adapt fairly quickly and begin to negate your effort. Cardio is good for the heart, don't get me wrong. But if you want to run faster/longer/stronger, the first order of business is to get the weight off!
Any cardio I do these days involved sandbags, stairs, hills, sprints etc mixed in with pushups, situps, lunges, etc. Basically, I mix in body-weight strength exercises at regular and irregular intervals, to keep the body guessing.
Used to be I couldn't run 1/8th mile without stopping. But I recently ran a 5k non-stop, in steep mountains, and did *zero* run training beforehand. It was all stamina built up from a balanced plan.0
