Running - Kneed problems

Hola!!! So I used to run a few years back before I gained some weight. I had some knee problems back then, but not major, like they would just feel "tight" the day after, no real pain or anything. But since I've taken up running again, I have had this shooting pain in my right knee now where it really stops me from doing any other sort of exercise that has impact. Even Zumba. It seriously sucks. I've never had this issue before. I've been easing back into it - and try to do it 2-3 times a week. I started out with 1 mile and progressed to 2.25 miles. The last couple of times I've done it I have had to stop less than a mile because of my knee....
Is this something that I can work with and get a knee support or maybe running just isn't for me? Looking for some advice from the running community.
