What’s your magic number?

I have a couple questions for the more tenured MFP people. You know those of you that have been at this a year or better. That have lost 70lbs -100lbs.

I myself have been at this for a little more than a year and a half now. In that time I've lost close to 70lbs. I know that losing weight comes with ebs and tides. For the first 10months if came off pretty easily. For the last 8 months its been pretty stagnant and some of that my own doing. I let “Life” run/ruin my “life style change” for a while and even gained some of my weight loss back.

I’m rededicating myself now and have a goal to reach before my birthday in January. I want to weigh 150lbs. It’s what my driver’s license says I weigh. Plus it will take me out of the “over weight” category and put me back into a “healthy” BMI range.

Questions:
1) How often do you work out? How many times a day? How many times a week?
2) When you work out, how many minutes do you work out?

Please tell me your magic number. What works for you?

Use the 150 as your guideline. If you really committ to this you may find that 150 is *not* the right number (could be higher or lower).

A decent workout would be at least 30 min - need to get the heart rate up and elevated for a while. But again -dependig on your commitment level you may want to opt for 45 min 4x per week!

The numbers are determined by you - your dedication, your time available, your goals!

For me, I work out 5-6x per week at least 45 min each time. And - some days are twofers. I exercise early in the morning and then again at night.

Cardio and strength will help you get to the number more evenly and with some muscle definition.

    Good luck!!

    Ah all very good questions....
  • Admittedly I haven't been at this for a year yet, but I do meet your weight requirement (just under 80 pounds lost).

I lift 3 times a week; times vary -- usually around a half hour though.

My cardio has become more sporadic as I've found it doesn't help with weight loss so much as it just aids in my overall health. Maybe 3 times a week for 20 to 60 minutes, depending on how bored I get.

I have shifted from doing a crap ton of cardio 7 days a week and no lifting, to seeing more of a value in lifting and kind of seeing less value in cardio (not that it's not important, don't get me wrong).

Things have shifted and changed so much over the months, as I've found what works and what doesn't, so this is all a work in progress.

@Avasano thanks for feeling my pain LOL

Thank you Stephanie1133 the only reason I put a year mark is becuase I knew that other people would have experienced the same Plateaus that I have along the way.
You offered solid advise. I think you're right I think the thing for me would be the lifting...its just I have been so succesful with cardio and the means for lifting are as available to me.
