measuring popcorn calories

Quick question: how do you measure oil popped popcorn on the stove. I usually measure out 1/3 cup of kernals which yields a nice pot of popcorn. Do I then have to measure the popped popcorn, or the kernals that I measured? I checked the database and it says a cup of popcorn (which is pretty small) is about 50 calories. Is that correct? Thanks!

Ehow says to measure popped which is what I do. Don't forget though to add calories if you put butter on it.

You can do it by the 1/3 of a cup of kernels + the amount of oil used, since it absorbs into the popcorn as it pops.

I believe that 1/4 of a cup of kernels is about 110 calories or so, but there should either be nutritional info on the kernels you buy or there are entries for kernels in the database.

Kernels to popped isn't an accurate count. The kernels will always have more calories than popped. I just checked my jar of Orvill Redenbocker kernels and 1 tablespoon of KERNALS is 120 Cals vs 1 cup popped of just 15.

OP: measure out the KERNALS for popping but when calculating calories use the popped number.
