Info on Fitbit?

I'm sure there are plenty of topics about this...My apologies if this is like a broken record! I was just hoping for some info on the fit bit...I'm a bit frugal with my money, but this really interests me so I think it would be worth the $100. I just had a few questions I was hoping you could answer?
What's it all about?
How does it work?
Do you have to wear it ALL DAY (well, obviously you don't HAVE to do anything, but is it recommended to wear it all day?)
To those who have a fitbit:
Has it changed your rate of weight loss?
Does it help with motivation?
I'm big-boned...Will it be uncomfortable for me to wear?
Any and all info about it is welcomed!

Thank you all!!

....Bump? Hearing the info from actual users of the fit bit is so much better than reading general info from the makers of Fitbit since it's a little biased...yanno? :flowerforyou:

There's a search option on this forum. There's literally dozens of threads with the exact same questions where you can find answers. Good luck.

Fitbit is a pedometer on steroids. It is not a HR monitor.
Fitbit tracks you mevment - steps, miles, floors climbed etc. It even tracks sleep.
Yes you need to wear it all the time.
If you use a stairmaster at the gym, it will not count stairs climed there. If you ride an escalator, it will count that as stairs climbed.

Yes it helps me stay motivated - I started walking more to hit my 10,000 steps a day and then I said I can jog this! And now I'm registered for 5 races! The website and the badges you can earn are great motivators.

I like that is synchs here at MFP - but be careful - you only need to enter food in 1 place. I enter my food here because this is where I've built up my data base. It gets transferred to fitbit automatically. I do not log exercise because fitbit does that for me, and transfers it here to MFP.

What I don't like - the sleep tracker sucks. Last night it said I had 100% sleep efficiency (meaning I never woke up). I woke up at midnight, 2 am and 4 am. I only use the sleep tracker so that the time I'm in bed isn't counted as sedentary - otherwise I think the sleep tracker sucks.

It has a stop watch function - so you can track a specific activity. I have used this to track my runs. The time is accurate, but the distance is not always, and sometimes it counts floors climbed when I haven't climbed any. Yesterday I did a 4.3 mile run fitbit registered it as 3.89 miles and 11 floor climed (when there was only an elevation distance of about 5 feet, so should not have even registered 1 floor). So I would have to say as a running training tool, it is not ideal. In fact, I ordered a Garmin running GPS system and I can't wait to compare them.

    Overall love my fitbit.
