Bruising, Swelling and Pain from Old Injury

Background: I am 46 years old. 31 years ago I broke the middle 3 toes on my left foot and several bones on the top of my foot, close to where the toes connect. No cast because of the area of the breaks and fractures. Just RICE and some pain killers.

I started the C25k 2 months ago and modified it down given my lack of physical fitness and complete each day 2 - 3 times before moving on. I'm not in any hurry to run/jog/complete a 5k, I just want to slowly get healthy/fit and am using the program as a jumping off point to work on.

During this time, I have had a little pain and some intermittant bruising. Monday, I added the 30 Day Shred (Very modified! LOL) This morning, those 3 toes are bruised and I have a half moon bruise on my foot right where the toes connect. There is a little swelling and they hurt. Not crying pain but just annoying pain.

Are old injuries just something you deal with or do I need to change it up to lower impact exercise?

If you know for sure that the old injury healed completely, then I would say do lower impact exercises.

Instead of the 30DS, I would do some strength training or yoga... I've found yoga to be incredibly valuable in my running but everyone differs

Also, I would have your foot rechecked if you haven't had a doctor look at it in 31 years. Something could have been displaced or fractured or perhaps it never healed correctly.
