NSV - my gym partner today was my daughter

One of my goals is to do thing with my daughters - trekking, travel, hiking and two years ago I did RAGBRAI - a great party ride across Iowa with 12000 people or more - with my then 16 year-old oldest daughter. I cycle on a tandem with my two youngest but my second daughter has often been impermeable to some of these activities or we've had limited luck. A skydiving trip with her boyfriend got postponed twice, our plans for climbing have not really taken off and she hates biking. The two lest did join me for part of a C25K program - they dropped out after a few weeks because of their schedules. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes less so.
But I ask.
Today, I asked her if she wanted to join my at the gym. To my surprise, I got a "yes, why not - I could use some exercise" - so a certain amount of patience was needed - wait I got an SMS to send, I need to pack, I don't know where my new gym shoes are. Oh, you need a photo for the gym card. This dragged on, we went to the photomaton and finally made it to the gym.
She's a future cardio girl but all she wants to do is have a washboard tummy - so we talked body comp, about her boyfriend wanting her to run more (she has a minor back problem) so I get to say no, unless she has, and keeps, a good core program going.
It was great to share the time, to laugh together and push each other. So, I mark this day with a white stone, and I think my daughter does too.

Had to reply to this one!! Isn't it AWESOME bonding time?
My 15 year old daughter workouts with me too sometimes. I am doing the Jillian Michaels Body Rev (kinda like the p90x but with JM) and she has joined in several of my workouts! Like you daughter...she loves to the cardio dvds...and I like the other ones with weights and bands. She breezes through the cardio...and I grunt and bear it....I breeze through the weights...and she grunts and bears it.
But we laugh, we giggle, we push each other...and I can tell if she has lots of homework and can't do it with me...she gets kinda bummed. LOVE THAT.
She is wanting me to get Insanity...(yea..right!)
Anyway, thanks for sharing this post! I know where you are coming from! Embrace it!!! Good times ahead! :flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks! I hadn't really thought that this might/will be an often repeated experience but it would be nice.
Today was just great.0
