Those of you with Google+ accounts or gmail accounts be VERY VERY VERY careful about who you friend on this site. I received an email today to my gmail address saying I can connect to my friends via Google+ and the names were people I didn't recognize. I clicked on the links and the pics on the Google+ profiles were people I recognize from this site on my FL. BE CAREFUL. I want to stress I do not have an active Google+ account but because I have a gmail account it created one for me.

Weird. Thanks for the heads up. Anyone know how to make that not happen?

If you have a gmail account or google+ account and you used your real name in creating either one of those accounts it can't be avoided. The only solution is to use a fake name in creating your gmail email account and not use Google+ at all.

Sounds dubious. Please explain how another MFP user can deduce your email address.

The MFP user doesn't. Basically because of how Google is tied in with pretty much EVERYTHING and IP tracking and cookies google will notify you of potential friends to add on Google+ who you might know from other services such as IM services and other social network sites. If they registered with gmail using their real name this then presents anyone who Google picks up on via IP matching/tracking and other social media or web services the ability to find out their real name.
