I see it posted all the time in the message boards about girls lifting heavy. What does that mean? How heavy (in lbs) is that? I lift crates and boxes all the time where I work anywhere from 35-65lbs that seems heavy to me lol. I'm very interested in strength training because I still have more than 100lbs to lose. Seriously hoping to not need surgery for excess skin when it's all said and done.

85% or more of your 1 rep max.

Heavy is relative. However many reps you do, the last ones should be tough. And in the beginning there should be fast progression as you make a lot of neuromuscular adaptations.
If you need a plan, the book 'new rules of lifting for women' was my starting point (and a lot of others around here)0
