Really depends what you like to eat!
You should plan out your meals for the entire week before you step into the grocery store, and then buy only what's on your list.
Here are some ideas for you:
Lots of fruit
Tons of vegetables
Salad & Dressings
Lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish, extra lean beef cuts, etc...)
Greek yogurt
All bran buds
Eggs
Protein Powder?
I limit to 1 wheat carb (english muffins, pitas, bread, etc...) for the week
I limit to 1 whole wheat pasta
Canned tomatoes
Canned beans
Whole Wheat Crackers (I buy Ryvita)
Canned tuna/turkey flakes
Tea
Stevia
1 treat for the week (baked chips, popcorn, tortilla chips, single chocolate bar, small container frozen yogurt, etc...)
Light Cheese0 -

From each section:
Fruit and veg - absolutely anything you like! I go for what's in season, or on offer. Not a big fan of potaotes or bananas, though. Always spinach, mushrooms, shallots.
Meats - lean meat, sliced ham, fish, chicken breasts. Crab sticks for snacks
Dairy - eggs, egg whites, cottage cheese, greek yoghurt, mini cheeses for snacks. Your preferred milk.
Tinned - tomatoes, tuna, sardines, chickpeas, kidney beans.
Dried - nuts (especially almonds), quinoa, rice, good quality pasta0 -

Do you plan your menus? That helps take the guess work out of what to buy? I plan a couple of choices for breakfast, and lunch then the week's dinners plus snacks. I always buy twice as much fruit as I think we will eat (I have four kids).0

I shop based on 3 things: Staple foods I eat every day. Items I need for specific meals and items for recipes I want to make for that week:
Staples:
Almond Milk
Apples
baby Carrots
Yams
Spinach
Avacados
Salad bag
Tomatos
Berries
Oatmeal
Walnuts
Flax Seed
roasted peppers
artichoke hearts
fetta cheese
canned tuna
chicken breast
12 grain bread
Meal items
low sodium ham for lunches
tea for breakfast
frozen veggie steamer bags for lunch
mozzarella cheese for lunch and dinners
Peanut Butter for snacks and lunches
sunflower seeds for snacks
yogurt for snacks
Egg whites for breakfasts
Dark chocolate for treats
Individual recipes require specific items - for example if I make veggie lasagna I will need whole grain lasgna shells, ricotta cheese, olives, tomato sauce, garlic, zuccinis - etc.
But that is basically how I shop - I keep my staples always replenished so I can always eat my basic meals and I buy things for recipes I want to make for that coming week.0 -

I find it is easier if I plan menus first, then create my list from that. It is hard to do when you aren't used to it, and time consuming, but it is easier on the budget *and* the waistline () if you do it this way.0 -
i just need to figure out what meals to have haha :P0

The one thing to remember is...if it goes bad in a weeks time, then you are choosing the right foods. Over processed foods hold little nutrition and lots of hidden calories and harmful additives. Try to limit those. Go checkout the blog www.skinnytaste.com. She has awesome recipes and a recipe box!0
