I have never had a heart rate monitor and I need one ..... But I only want one that counts calories burned as well.. Can anyone recommend one, or does anyone have one that they think works well?

Check out bodytronics.com. I have the Polar FT60 and I really like it.0

I have a Polar FT4 and I love it. Tells you how many calories you burned at the end of your workout (and I think it stores them too, not sure how many). It was about $60 ordered online.0

C'mon...don't you have any favorite brands and models that accurately calculate calories burned?0 -
I love my Polar FT60... just got a new soft strap for it and it works for swimming as well!0

I have the Polar FT7 and LOVE it0

Was just wondering this too! My Polar F6 just crapped out. I have to order a new chest strap(can't replace the battery in it) and the watch would have to be sent to Polar to have the battery changed in the watch. For the cost of it all, can just get another. My hubby loves his Timex, but I think it seems to generous with the calorie burn. I think I'd like another Polar, but one where the chest strap battery can be changed. Thanks for posting this question!0

Most new Polar's have replaceable batteries in both watch and strap. The straps are also much more comfortable. I have been very happy with the brand and they have a very informative site at Polarusa.com. If you have questions on a model or feature you can go under support and they have a live chat to ask.
<Peers around and wonders if he can take M3's Suunto>0 -

I have a very basic Polar FT4 love it counts calories and heart rate.0

Like so many others would recommend, go for the Polar FT4!!! amazon.com
I previously had an older model and it'd give me more details about my workouts, this one only gives you basic information, however, it's enough... I'd recommend Polar, I'll never switch to another brand!0 -
I have a Pyle and I love it!!0

Had a Polar FT1 - very basic. Not recommended.
Now got a Polar FT7 and find it really good. Easy to use, plenty of features.0 -

Here's another for the FT4. Does exactly what I want a hrm to do and not any more (or any less).0

I have a Polar FT4 also.
My one recommendation whatever you get, get one with a chest strap. My previous HRM didn't have one and it was totally unreliable because it couldn't get a real reading.0 -
polar FT40! its awesome! well worth the money!0

For cycling there is no finer bit of kit than a Garmin Edge 500 and reasonably priced too.0

I use the Polar FT60 and like the way it works. It has preset programs you can select: lose weight. increase fitness, and maximize performance. Then it gives you time goals for each of three training zones, also preset according to your age. I like it that I can adjust the minimum-maximum rates for each zone. At any time during a workout, I can see how much time has elapsed, my current zone, and the number of calories burned. If you complete your target goals according to the program you select, the display shows stars and plays a trumpet flare. It also provides recommendations to improve, such as exercise more in Zone 1. It also has a fitness test that it prompts you to take on a monthly basis with a chart that shows your progress. I bought mine through www.heartratemonitorusa.com because the price there was about 20% lower than on the Polar site.0
