That Last .1 is a Killer!

I HAD to share my newest NSV with you all...

I have had a goal of finishing a 5K in less than 40 minutes for this entire year. My last race finishing time was 40:05 and it was so frustrating to see that I had come so close and missed it by *that* much.

Today, before the start of my next 5K, I told myself "Every step counts...you can walk it or you can jog it or you can run it...it's up to you"

Then BANG! Everyone takes off...

Each time I wanted to stop and walk, I reminded myself of those 5 seconds from the last race and how frustrated I was.

The pain would disappear but my regret of failing yet again would stick with me forever. I decided this time to really push myself.

As I passed mile 3, I thought "YES, I DID IT!"

But wait...a 5K is 3.1 miles! I still had .1 to go and 40 minutes was fast approaching! Darn that .1 mile! :noway:

BUT by the end of the race, I had a finishing time of 39:38!

I am feeling so fantastic right now  I just wanted to share this with you all. I have proven to myself that if I want something bad enough, I will make it happen! :drinker:

Congratulations! It's true for me as well that the last little bit of any run is the toughest. It's a mental more than a physical obstacle. When I know the end is almost there I have to remind my self to finish it the way I started it!

    Congrats!
I was just about to post that I ran my first 5K today, without having any training to speak of. In my run, the last .1 mile was the steepest part of the whole run, up hill. I sprinted the best I could and made it in 37:11. I am more proud that I didn't walk at all thant the time.

  • Great Job and what a sense of accomplishment! I have to agree with you and the others, the last leg of a run seems to be the hardest. Keep on running!

My next 5K is in a few weeks. I'm shooting for under 39 mins now! Haha and my next time goal milestone is 35 mins!

Thank you everyone for the awesome words and congrats and support. It means a lot to me. Running is certainly something I never though I could do and each time I finish a race I am reminded of just how awesome it is to do something you once thought was impossible! :-D
