HR Monitor Question - when to turn it off?

I now have the Polor FT7 but am not sure how to track the numbers. After my workout I left it running since my heart rate was still up. After my HR got down to 100 I just shut it off. Should I leave it running, counting calories, until I'm back down to norma-ishl or just shut it off right after my workout?

I'm a numbers freak so this is driving me nuts. Thanks for your help!
