Cheat opinion

I have a question... if you had pizza (or something like that) but stayed under cal for the day/meal is that concidered a cheat because it is not "healthy" food? or having a meal and not counting cals a cheat?

I had pizza for dinner. I counted them into my totals and I don't consider it cheating. I don't think you CAN cheat...you either stay within you calories or you don't. :)

You do not have to only have healthy foods. You can have treats in moderation as long as you stay under your calorie goal.

If you don't track the calories in a meal...yes, obviously that is a 'cheat'. It's OK to 'cheat' once in a while, but if you do this too much, you won't lose weight.

I have "cheat days" for me I eat whatever I want/crave and not log for that day...so if I want pizza I just eat what I want and not worry about how much I eat of it...(generally I only eat 2 slices, but sometimes I want more or have cheesesticks)....some ppl log everything everyday, and that works for them, some don't believe in "cheat days".......it's really whatever works for you, but I feel eat what you want/crave just in moderation...

I don't think it's cheating because it's unhealthy. I think "cheat" days are the days that don't count. The days you don't care if you go over. Christmas and Thanksgiving will be cheat days for me, because there are some great cooks in my family. What I'm eating probably won't be that unhealthy, but it probably will send me over. On the other hand, all unhealthy food, even if I don't consider it cheating, could lead to nutrition problems.

My "cheat" days are usually days where I know I will be over on calories by a bunch. I try to log every day, even if I know I might be over. But it's only a "cheat" if it's several hundred calories over. I usually have enough of a deficit during the week to afford 1 day where I'm 100-300 calories over. It's when I start hitting 400+ calories over that it's a cheat day. I don't sweat it. They happen. But I try to keep those types of overages for special occasions like family get togethers where I'm not the one in control of what is served. And then I don't cry when I do indulge.

I have lost 94lbs and I have had Ice cream almost every day since i started, I have some kind of desert, this is not about deprivation it is about moderation and a way of eating for the rest of your life. So like others have said, it is not cheating if you can stay under.

I don't understand how you can consider a "cheat day" a day you don't log your calories. I'm all for a splurge/cheat day, but the point is to log what you ate(or at least close to it) so you can understand what you've been eating long term. Maybe I am not one of those people who is afraid to see what I ate on my splurge day, but to me I know I'll splurge from time to time, but as long as my weekly numbers are within range, I know I'm doing well. I don't get how you don't log what you eat, isn't that the point of being of using the tools this site gives us?

    Hello gmn728,

Please get out of that mindset of right/wrong black/white healthy/unhealthy good/bad. You're only digging yourself down further by categorizing foods that way. :) Associating the word 'cheat' with pizza, or other 'certain' foods.... pfft. Go back to grade school. How about cheese huh? Is cheese now a cheat food too huh? It has fat. It has salt. Or how about bread huh? It has salt. It has carbs. OH NO. CARBS. AHH CARBS. ANYTHING BUT CARRBSBBSJBFSJG!!! OR PEPPERONI OMG ITS SALTY AND OILY AND TRANS FATTY AND OMG THE ONIONS AND BELLPEPPERS ON IT TOO BUT I THOUGHT THEY WERE VEGETABLES BUT ITS ON PIZZA OH MY OH NO MY WHOLE WORLD ITS TURNED UPSIDEDOWNSOMEBOdhYHELPMENEINFIFNEAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

You want pizza? Eat some pizza like a boss. Don't want pizza? EAT SOMETHING ELSE.

I really think it is whatever works for you and your body. I always eat super healthy and then have 1 cheat day a week where I don't log what I eat, and I don't care how much over it is. This works for me though cause I know I'm not good at just having 1 piece of candy, or just one scoop of ice cream or something like other people can. I don't log those days though, cause I know it's going to be bad and I don't want to be guily. :)

I really just wanted peoples opinion... A friend and I were having a convo and I just wanted other people's opinions too
  • I guess I don’t believe in “cheat days” or “cheating” in general. The only person that gets cheated is you. I don’t believe that certain foods are wrong or bad. I believe that I must maintain the philosophy that this is my lifestyle and to forbid myself from eating certain foods will only lead to my own destruction. If you eat the pizza just enjoy it, log it, and move on. Best of luck to you.
