Too much pie!

It's thanksgiving weekend (in Canada), and I have 3 turkey dinners to attend, in a row. Today was the second. All 3 include turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie, etc. (the usual). I eat really healthy all day but it always feels like such a let down at the end of the day to fill my body with these high carb-high fat foods. I can't not eat what everyone has worked so hard to prepare so instead I'm going to be doing some extra sit-ups and squats tonight and for the rest of this long weekend. Any other Canadians out there in the same boat? How do you deal with this detour from healthy eating?

I feel your pain my feasting starts tomorrow, I'm adding to the temptation by making pumpkin cheesecake brownies. I'm just going to take it easy have a lot of water, try to stay away from the wine, and not sit in the kitchen around the table all afternoon, lots of green salad hopefully, and small portions of everything else. Enjoy it and my biggest rule, if you don't love the food don't eat it, it won't be worth the calories.

I'm not sure why, but the episode of Vicar of Dibley just came to me...the Christmas episode where Geraldine has to go to everyone's Christmas dinner and is brought home in the bucket of a front end loader LOL!0

Hey, I found a pie with barely any fat! I use sugar free pudding. I use Sugar free chocolate pudding, and if you use skim milk it has no fat and then you take fat free cool whip and wala!!!0

I just tell my hostess, if asked (and most of them don't) that, "I do not eat sugar and grain" and let them draw their own conclusions. The can see that I have lost weight and they know that my husband has food allergies so I let them think whatever they like. If they really press me for an explanation, I might say something like, "My brother has diabetes and I had gestational diabetes. That makes me a prime candidate for it. I am much more able to keep my blood sugar under control by not eating sugar and grain. But, happily, I can eat everything else." And then I proceed to eat a normal amount of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, along with all the vegetables I want (as long as they aren't sweet potatoes with syrup and marshmallows---ugh, I hate them---too sweet). I did that last year and didn't gain an ounce. :happy:0

I'm not Canadian, but I have the same issue when we have Thanksgiving here in the States. I just fix myself a small plate (never any seconds) and pass on dessert at one of the dinners at least.
Just be sensible.. Get in an extra workout on those days if possible, and if not.. Don't sweat it, and pick back up on your routine on Monday.0 -

Thanksgiving and Christmas are the times I .know I won't gain weight .I never eat what everyone else dose.I put my meal in a bowl it limits what I can put in it never go back for seconds,,I m never full at end .that's my trick for not over indulging ,0
