5'9" In Need Of Help

I am 5'10" and have had a MFP account for nine months now. Over the summer I didn't have access to it but from January to April I kept track of my food, following the recommended 1200 calories/day fairly well, and made sure to balance my extra calories with exercise. I ran several times a week, 3-3.5 miles. I did not lose weight.
Now I am back at school and back on the MFP 1200 calories plan. Since running did nothing for me I've stopped, and am currently trying Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred. But 1200 calories a day leaves me feeling hungry and I am constantly thinking about food. Is this simply due to my not having enough self-control, or should I up my calorie intake? I don't want to up my calories if it will keep me from making any progress losing weight. I have a very slow metabolism and am trying desperately to lose about 30 lbs, because I am currently about 188 lbs and would like to be closer to the suggested weight range for my height. Any and all advice would be most appreciated.

Are you eating back any of your exercise calories. Most folks on here say you should eat some, if not all of your exercise calories to maintain enough net calories to meet your body's daily needs.0

It could be your body is just used to running on more than 1,200 cal per day. I'm 5'8" and I haven't had too much of a problem with it (when I'm at school at least lol).0

I replied to your other post too but eat more. If you're hungry at 1200 calories, up it a bit. have you figured out your BMR and TDEE? Check our this post, it'll help you a lot. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-120
