Hi Guys. I came across Myfitnesspal yesterday and I am amazed reading all the wonderful success stories. I am really happy for everyone who have got amazing results. I have tried to loose weight for several years with the help of all sorts of medicines, diet and little workout here n there but all in vain. This site has given me a new hope to loose weight so I decided to take the plunge.
I need some help to understand MY FITNESS GOALS.
NUTRITIONAL GOALS GOALS
Net Calories Consumed* / Day 1,670 calories/day
FITNESS GOALS GOALS
Calories Burned / Week 2,550 calories/week
YOUR DIET PROFILE TARGET
Calories Burned
From Normal Daily Activity 2,170 calories/day
Net Calories Consumed*
Your Daily Goal 1,670 calories/ day
Daily Calorie Deficit 500 calories
Projected Weight Loss 1.0 lbs/ week
Can you please help me understand how many calories I should be taking a day and how many calories I need to burn a day?
Also I came across a term called NSV on success stories. What does this stand for and what it means?
Thanks a lot !! Looking forward to meeting some wonderful people here

That's telling you would need to eat 2170 cals on a normal day to maintain your weight. It's suggesting reducing this intake by 500 which could help you lose a pound a week.
You should be having 1670 cals a day, this takes into account your daily activity.
If you do additional exercise to what you would be doing on a normal day then eat this on top of the deficit.
Eg if you did 200 cals jogging on a particular day you should look to eat ~1870 that day.
Some people suggest only eating a little more I would suggest the full amount so that when you burn off the extra food you're left with your net again. That may make you think what's the point then in exercising but weight loss is 90% about eating well, not restricting yourself to certain foods but having them in moderation and sticking to your intake. Exercise is there to make you look ace.
NSV = non scale victory
Basically a positive event which doesn't involve scales and weighing. Something like being able to run a 4mile or just fitting into smaller jeans etc0 -
Hi, not a technical reply here, but just to say that I love this site! I used to do Weight Watchers, but this is so much more transparent. I can now look at any food packet and know how much of my daily allowance it will take up - no sums involved! The community function is great and everyone is really supportive. There is a very strong emphasis on exercise here which took some getting used to for me, but it has encouraged me to join the gym. A lot of people get very technical as well, but I like to keep it simple:
If you eat less, and move more, you will lose weight!0 -
Hi and welcome..I'm not so sure on your overall stats, but NSV means non scale victory. Like you saw someone's head turn to smile at ya, as you're losing pounds. Thinks like that, not related to just a number.
Enjoy the journey!0 -

I would start here.
