I am considering purchasing the Fitbit Zip, I usually just use a heart rate monitor but I want to hear your veiws. Do you think this is better to have than a normal heart rate monitor?

The Fitbit's a pedometer, so it's going to be a totally different thing & won't replace your HRM. It's good for tracking general activity levels, and can give you calorie estimates for walking/jogging/running type activities, but you'll want the HRM for other types of cardio exercise.0

Thank you, that has answered my question x0

I got Fitbit first then a HRM. I use both for cardio workouts.
I really love my Fitbit so I know how many calories I actually burn in a whole day. It's also what encourages me to keep on moving, even by just a little. It's a great tool and a great motivator.
If you can afford it, I recommend having both.0 -

I have a bodybugg (the technology of bodymedia fit) and now that I found (someone on these forums, whom I don't remember, so I can't give credit) that I can wear it in my bra, it is the BEST THING IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!
Since it uses body temperature and perspiration along with the pedometer, it gives a more accurate view of your daily activity than fitbit. Their food tracking is abysmal, but I just track in MFP and transfer the totals over once a week.0 -
Cool - I love my fitbit too, but I may have to check out that bodymedia fit, the HRM is cool but the strap that you have to wear around your chest gets on my nerves. Plus you have to wet it b4 working out and I ain't got time for all that, i may decide at the last minute I want to workout and don't have time to be wetting the strap and putting it on. I owned a POLAR Ft40 and it kept losing my heart rate while doing my classes at the gym..so frustrating.. thanks for mentioning the bodymedia fit..0

I wonder if maybe your strap wasn't tight enough? I have a HRM and it has never required wetting to pick up my HR. The only issue I had was recently when I realized that my HR was *dropping* even though I was going up a hill. I used the HR thingy on the treadmill to double check...so I took off my HRM, tightened the strap and put it back on ( no simple feat at 3.4MPH) and it has worked flawlessly since.0 -
I have the fitbit zip and it works great. I wear it all day while at work and it tracks all my walks and activities during the day. The HRM is good for workouts but not all day use.0

I have used the Fitbit ultra since the first of the year and just switched to the fitbit zip. The fitbit zip is sweatproof since my workout have become more intense. But I love the fitbit because it tracks your activeness thru out the day and sync with MFP. I also used an iPhone app called Endomondo, a GPS program for running or walking that sends the miles and calories burned to Fitbit which in turn sends to MFP. Sweet! I have not used a HRM.0
