At what point should I up my calories?

I'm still 17 pounds away from goal... (I started at 204 and am now 157). I've been eating 1600 calories a day. I am breastfeeding which burns between 300 and 600 calories a day, otherwise I'd be eating 1200. I am breast feeding full time but I have no idea which end of the spectrum I'm on with that. Anyway.... I'm wondering at what point you should start to up your calorie intake... I read somewhere as you get close to your goal, you should, so your body isn't in "shock" when you are eating a lot more. I'm guessing I'm going to be done dieting/ready to maintain AND no longer breast feeding within a couple months of each other so I don't want my body to go into double shock by not only consuming more, but not burning near as much as I normally do. Thoughts?!
