Body building diet?

OK, currently I'm on the doing the Insanity dvds and working a 1500-1900 calorie and I'm dropping the weight quite regularly. When I achieve my goal weight and the Insanity is done, I plan to hit the gym and start adding the muscle mass. My goal is to be a lean 190-200 lb guy.
So I start doing the online research and I'm finding that they want me to pretty much double my calorie intake to almost 4000. I still will be looking to reduce body fat, and I know that I'm still going to be eating properly, but doesn't 4000 calories seem a little excessive? Is the idea to be adding the muscle and then after a few months, start cutting the fat again?
Opinions? I need to plan this stuff out....

4000 calories seems REALLY high if you are currently at 1900, unless you are in a deficit to lose 2 lbs a week? You need a calorie SURPLUS to build muscle adequately. You need a calorie DEFICIT to lose fat. Most important thing is to be sure you are taking in adequate PROTEIN to fuel the building of muscle.
So, you are correct. Most all body builders go through "bulk" and "cut" cycles. They eat at a calorie surplus while working HARD with heavy weights to build muscle. Then, once more mass is added, they eat at a SLIGHT deficit to lose the fat that is also gained in addition to the muscle in a bulk cycle.0 -
you need a caloric surplus to gain muscle... and with a caloric surplus you will gain fat as well. it just depends how much muscle you want to build and if you care about how much fat you gain... if you want to have leaner, slower, less noticable gains then have a lower caloric surplus of say like 200 cal extra per week and continue to increase until you dont gain any weight or have progress in weight room...
if you want to gain the most amount of muscle possible over a shorter amount of time, and have quicker gains just eat until you are stuffed and make sure you get the daily protein and fat requirements but the downside is you will gain more fat.. so it just depends wut you want to do.
what i did to gain my muscle is i did a dirty eat what i want bulk to gain the majority of my muscle then leaned out now im doin a slower approach because i had to strip off a lot of fat last time..
if you need specifics or opinions just message me and i can give u more details0
