Lost on the BMR!

I've been checking my BMR on various websites. On websites such as Healthy Living, Livestrong, Mayo, etc., my BMR is 2000. Therefore, if I want to lose 1.5 per week, I need to have approximately 1250 per day.

On My Fitness Pal, my BMR is 2500 with a net intake of 1780. That's a HUGE difference over the course of a week/month/year. This does not include exercise calories.

Why is there such a difference? Should I eat the 1250? I want to be careful that I don't go into "starve" mode.

Thanks in advance!!

Noo, that can't be right. You need to figure out your TDEE and eat 20% below that.

Yup, I doubt that all these different numbers are your BMR.

BMR is the number of calories that would sustain life if you were in a coma (more or less).
Then you multiply this number by an activity factor (1.2 if you are sedentary and it increases as you are more active). The resulting number is going to be your TDEE.

You want to be subtracting your calorie deficit from your TDEE not your BMR.
