Having a snack later in the evening?

So anyone who looks at my diary will see I am WAY below my Net and calorie count.
I always hear people say it is bad to eat later at night. It is almost 9pm would it be bad for me to have a snack of fruit?

I have read you should not eat within 3 hours of going to bed if that helps.0

Well I plan to be asleep in three hours lol.
Hmm well my dinner wasn't all that great either had that at 7:30ish ...0 -
what about a bowl of cereal and some skim milk?0

Just have your snack if you want it. I know there are people who say don't eat close to bed time but I don't think there is much credible evidence to prove that it makes a difference. Your body works hard on a night processing food you have eaten during the day anyway.
If it would keep you awake or give you heartburn then that is undertandable but if you are hungry and not eaten many calories then just eat something. Timing is mostly irrelevant (unless you were a pro athlete or body builder or something)0 -
For what it's worth, I've heard that the "don't eat after 8 PM" (or other specific time) rule is not based on anything scientific per se, but on the fact that once people are done with work and their chores etc and start to sit down and relax in the evening, there's a tendency to start mindless snacking which really puts on the pounds if you're not paying attention. I don't think *when* you eat makes nearly as much of a difference if your TDEE (overall expenditure of calories) exceeds what you take in that day.
Think about it, not everyone has a schedule where they get up at 6 AM and go to bed at 10 PM. If you're up til 1 AM and don't get up until 8 AM, then the "don't eat after 8 PM" rule is just foolish and non-logical.
Go ahead and have a sensible snack in the evening0 -

In terms of fat storage it's not going to matter provided that eating at night does not constitute over-eating for the day in total.
Many people eat the majority of their calories at night (myself included).
Total intake is vastly more important than timing.0 -

I agree, it has never made much of a difference for me.0 -
Eat the snack. Eating late is only a problem if you're prone to indigestion IMO.0

I'd say fine as long as this piece of fruit does not turn into a binge (BTDT).
Also, depends on the fruit. Apples and me, for example - no go. Love 'em but they just boost my appetite.0 -
a lot of times i have dinner around 8 pm and then sometimes a snack around 9 pm and im typically in bed around 10-11pm...it wont hurt...0

snacks are fine in the evenings, if its a genuine hunger & not lacking in water
weetabix is a good choice as its a slow release food to keep you fuller for longer0
