I'm worried about my friends behaviour, help please!

So i know my friend uses this account to calculate her calories and just made an account to ask for some advice, because I don't know whether i'm overthinking things or if her behaviour is abnormal.

She's been looking very trim lately, even though she's never been fat. She says she weighs 7.5 stone and i say she's around the same height as me, like 5ft 4/5ft 3. She used to pig out and eat chips, pizza, chocolate bars. We used to go to subway and she'd order a tuna mayo or we'd go to buy snacks and she'd munch her way through a galaxy chocolate. She wasn't unhealthy atall but she didn't think about treating herself. Nowadays all she eats is porridge or weetabix in the morning, a sald or soup for lunch and then like some fish or salad or noodles for dinner. She only ever snacks on yogurt or fruit and always inspects packets of food obsessively.

It's no fun eating with her anymore because she's not fat i don't understand why she's accting like this but i don't want to confront and upset her. She also recently joined the gym.

Should i be worried?

Sounds like she has adopted a healthy lifestyle and no you shouldn't be worried at all.

I am betting that about 75% of the users on here do the same thing.

She sounds like she is doing great and since she isn't broke, don't fix her!

Doesn't sound like she is doing anything crazy, no. She is might just be feeling very passionate about reaching her goals and has extra energy to find ways to do so since she has just started. I think we all get a big "gung ho" at the beginning.

I think it's great that she has changed her eating habits and is checking labels. Just because she appears healthy, doesn't mean that she is healthy on the inside. I applaud anyone who is already thin and wants to change their eating to something more healthy. I personally wish she would go to whole foods and skip the processed stuff altogether, but...we can't wish for it all, right?

Also, you never know what she is struggling with, she could have an unseen medical factor that has pushed her towards changing her lifestyle. My mom is very thin and is more diabetic than I am and I am double her size.

She may not even be sick, she might she want to tone up or treat some problem areas. Who knows.

It sounds a bit to me like you are jealous...she is smaller than you and hasn't really struggled with weight and now how dare she get compulsive about reading labels and watching what she eats? Yeah, sounds like a little bit of the green monster showing its head.

I think you should be looking inwards and asking yourself why it's not any fun to eat with her anymore and what reasons you might have for not being happy for her.

If she starts looking very underweight or you know that she is purging, then that is another story. But it doesn't sound like that is the case.

**edited to say - I considered this being a troll, but figured I would say my peace just in case it wasn't. :D
  • wow okay i have more to do with my time than 'troll' on fitness blogs i just know she uses this site and was a little worried because when somebody changes their attitude to food so drastically and loses a bunch of weight, shes also stopped her period and claims its nothing to do with that, i was a little bit worried and thought i'd see if this was normal behaviour becuase i'm not really down with the kids of the dieting world. Aparrently they're all cynics. chill out i have better things to do with my time. And i'm perfectly happy with my weight thankyou very much so no, no green eyed monster.

Porridge is the real red flag here. It sent Goldilocks down the path to burglary and sleeping in strange animals' beds. Nip this in the bud while there is still time.

Wait, she stopped eating *kitten* and is eating tasty healthy food, and this worries you? She is probably feeling much better physically. If she seems obsessive, it is probably because she is learning how to eat correctly now, and when she has it down, and doesn't have the need to think about it as much, she will not be as verbal about it. Why do you want your friend to eat nasty bad food? I am worried about you, and her for having a "friend" like you.
  • you should be totally worried.... sounds like she's moved onto a healthy lifestyle without you.

    7.5 stones = 105 lbs = probably a little on the thin side for someone that's 5'3" - 5'4".

Her eating habits sound fine, healthy. Maybe there is a health reason (beyond weight loss and fitness) for how she eats, you never know. Just keep an eye on it, because if she continues to lose weight, she could end up at an unhealthy weight.

Healthy women have periods. Maybe this person had a legitimate concern here? At any rate, looks like you all have succeeded in chasing away "the troll".

    dude, this SUCKS!
sounds like you have lost a partner in crime!
you should probably put up an ad on craigslist, or similar, and recruit a new food buddy!
i think with keywords like "tuna mayo" and "chocolate galaxy" you'll have a new pigpal in NO time!

    good luck!

Agreed - that IS a little underweight for that height and if her periods have stopped that is not healthy.
