Visualizing Success

I got these two great articles in my inbox this morning about the negative effects of visualizing success without visualizing the obstacles. Thought it was completely relevant to what we're all trying to do, and might help? Here you go:
http://99u.com/articles/7232/The-Power-of-Negative-Thinking
http://99u.com/videos/7221/Teresa-Amabile-Track-Your-Small-Wins-to-Motivate-Big-Accomplishments (this one has a video)
Do you think it has helped you more to visualize your end success, or to visualize how you'll get there and what you'll have to overcome? I think anticipating the obstacles helps me, because then when I get to hard parts of my journey, it's nothing I didn't already anticipate.
