Avoiding plantar fascitis flair ups?

Last summer I got to week 5 of the C25K and had to stop due to plantar fascitis in my left foot and I haven't run a single step since. I was pretty frustrated because I had never gotten that far before and thought I was actually going to finish! A friend of mine ran her first 5K this weekend after losing 180lbs!! YUP! She lost me!! I have been thinking about her a lot and am looking for anyone who has this condition and any suggestions you can give me to prevent the flair up I had last time. I have GOOD running shoes from the local running store. They are great there and really make sure you have the right fit. So....any thoughts? As much as I HATE them, there are treadmills in my school I can use after the kids leave. Any suggestions?? Thanks!!
