Snoring! How to stop it!

My brief google research has yielded a huge spectrum of answers from the "Take XYZ wonder pill to cure your snoring" to the pessimistic "nothing works, just deal with it."

I know, in my case, the amount I snore is directly related to my weight. Below a certain weight, I don't snore. But what if you or a significant other has a snoring problem that doesn't go away with maintaining a healthy weight? What then? How do you stop your snoring?

And, if you can't stop it, how does your SO get any sleep?

Normally when my fiance snores, which isn't that often, I like to lean over and plug his nose for a second....it stops it every single time.

Or use BreatheRight Strips, they help as well, to open up your nose and help you breathe.

Other than that, I have no idea.

You could have a sleep study done. It could be caused by sleep apnea. Another thought is allergies.

My husband snored like a freight train for years. The sleep doctor he saw diagnosed him with sleep apnea and told him not to gain any more weight. He gained another 25 lbs or so. He continued to snore like a freight train unless he was using his cpap machine. Recently he's lost right around 50 lbs and almost never snores anymore. It's wonderful!

When Marco 1st started sleeping over, I got no sleep. That guy is lucky I love him because he snores REALLY loud at times. Now its weird when we stay together I rarely hear him. Rolling him over when he is loud has helped me.

When I was really heavy I snored and my ex-wife told me she would hit me with a pillow and I would stop for a bit. Once i realized it was a problem I tried all sorts of things. According to my ex the thing that worked the best was the snore spary and breath right strips used together followed by the magnetic clip.

IN my case I snored to the point of my wife going wack-O. So I did the sleep study and got diagnosed with Sleep apnea - a serious problem.

The CPAP machine solved the snoring issue but sleeping with a mask and hose on your face does not help your love life.

Losing weight does cure the problem for many, but not all. I hope to find out which one I am....

    Good luck.

I am pretty sure that my weight has caused me to snore. Hubby never complained about me snoring until I got fat.

Thanks for the response/PMs... I'm definately encouraged to see that so many people found snoring got better after losing weight.

I had a bad snoring problem. I tried everything. My guy has always used ear plugs because he works nights and sleeps during the day, but even he had problems with my snoring. I had the sleep study done and they found that I had restless leg syndrome, and seemed to have an issue with breathing through my nose. I did some research and talked to my doctor about the OTC medications I had been taking. I stopped taking antihistamines and pseudoephedrine for allergysinus issues and started using a nasal spray. The restless leg went away, but I still couldn't breathe. I went to an ENT and found that I had some blockages in my sinuses as well as a deviated septum. I had a 4 in 1 sinus surgery and my snoring issues went away because I am now able to breathe through my nose. I still have to take an antihistamine for allergies, but I found one that works for me without the restless leg syndrome.

I snore but not loudly, and only since I gained weight so we'll see if it goes away.
My boyfriend snores super loudly if he sleeps on his back...but as soon as I kick him and make him roll over it stops. It's all in the airways

Seen a lot of ads here for laser surgery on soft palate. Supposedly helps in cases when snoring comes with age and/or weight (soft palate lowering or something, not an expert). No idea if it works though.
