Outside foot pain...

I saw on old post on this (search function) but could not reply because I am not a member of the long distance runners' group. I think I injured myself and I'm not able to get to the doctor before Thursday due to work, kids, etc. I just want to make sure I don't injure myself more before I can get it looked at. I ran 8 miles on Sunday and then walked around at our local fair for the remainder of the day and felt no pain. When I woke up yesterday and stepped down I had pain on the outer middle bottom part of my left foot. There is a bone right where the pain is. I could walk yesterday, though not terribly comfortable. Today I am at a hobble at best. When I sit the pain is relieved, when I put any pressure on my foot is is very painful, although I noticed this afternoon that it doesn't hurt if I walk on my toes. Do you think it's ok to do this until I can get it checked out or will I just cause a secondary calf strain or something walking around on my tip toes all day?

I think I would try to stay off of it until you can get to a Dr. Maybe see if any of your friends or family has crutches. could be something simple but, I wouldn't take a chance on it

I work in medical imaging and I hear similar stories like yours all the time. I would get it looked at asap. It's quite possible to have fractured the 5th metatarsal. Most common is a stress fracture in that area.

I had similar pain on my right foot after my 1/2 marathon. I was stupid and kept using it. FInally decided that it was take a week off all activity or I was facing a permanent or more serious injury. I took a week off(I still walked my girls to school and did grocery shopping, but no gym time for a week). I iced multiple times a day. After that week off, I was good as new. I have really bad insurance, though. If I had better ins., I would have gone to my Dr. For me, self treatment worked. If it lasts longer than a week with icing and low use, I'd see your Dr.

Thanks for all of your replies. I thought about the crutches, but can't find anyone that has any. I have a desk job, so I mostly sit, just walking back and forth to get candidates for interviews and to the printer, etc. It's just when I get home that I'm "running" like crazy. I think I'll just make tonight take-out and movie night so maybe my kids will be still and I can elevate and ice! :) I am taking tomorrow off to go to the ortho, we have one in town that has an urgent care walk-in.
