ug. I will shame-eat an entire bag of candy corn if it has the pumpkins in it. i'll be vibrating and feeling ill for 24 hours from the sugar, but i'll love every minute of the consumption process.0

I will sometimes add log it into my dairy and see where it puts me. The other day I was going to eat a tootsie roll bar. When I added it in and found it was 50 calories, I decided I didn't want it that bad. I didn't want to waste 50 calories on something that wasn't going to do anything for me. I am diabetic so the other thing that keeps me from eating candy is really reading the nutrition. I then will ask myself if I really want it or not. Usually I find my self putting it down and walking away. Keep yourself accountable. I will keep lots of gum in my desk. If I have gum in my mouth I usually don't eat anything else. But my doctor also told me that I can have treats, once in a while, just not everyday and in moderation.0

I have a bowl of Halloween candy at my desk right now!!! I eat out of it whenever I want.......I just make sure to hit the gym a little harder or adjust my caloric intake for the rest of the day!0

I bought a ton of candy this weekend. Then today I packed them up in boxes and sent it all off to my 2 nieces in college to share with their friends. I feel good about it and I got all that sugary ickness out of my house!0
-
I don't buy any until the week of. A few days after Halloween, we sort through and keep our favorites and donate the rest. A piece here and there won't kill you. This is the same candy that is out all year round, it just now has pictures of pumpkins and stuff on it. Why can you avoid it all year except holidays?0

Since when did dead people and candy go together?!
Basically since forever, really:
Historically, the practice of giving out candy because in ancient Rome people would give out sweets and pastries on a day of which they celebrate the dead,
More reasons from contributors:
Trick-or-treat's origins come from the medieval practice of souling, when poor folk would walk door to door on Hallow-mas (November 1), receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (November 2).
In modern day celebrations of Halloween, children go door to door and say "trick or treat" and neighbors give them candy.
because the kids come dressed up as monsters the candy is like a peace offering to send the ghouls away without harming you.
we give candy out because in the old days they say the spirits would rise from the dead so they would not harm them they would leave food outside as a piece offering as time went on instead of food they started to give out candy
In the ancient traditions that Halloween is rooted in, people handed out treats and such to visitors who came around so that they would be looked after, and stop evil spirits from coming to the house and harassing them.
In order to keep the kids from "tricking"-
Candy is given as a treat at Halloween to bribe mischief-makers into NOT playing pranks on someone.

aaaaaaand queue the Thanksgiving and Christmas panic threads in 3.....2......1.....
I FRIGGAN LOVE CANDY CANES!
For the record, most of the stuff that comes out for holiday candy is available every damn day...so what's the difference? But also...don't avoid it, enjoy it! (with common sense, of course).0 -
My tip is this...I don't start eating it. If I do, I can't stop. When I buy halloween candy to hand out, I buy stuff I don't care for (Nerds, Sweet Tarts, Lolly Pops, etc) AND only the day before or day of. It has really helped me. I have come to know that I have little to no willpower when it comes to certain things so I don't even attempt it.0

$1 for every day you go without. HR puts a Halloween candy bucket right by my desk and that is how I got through last October and plan to get through this October too.0
-
I buy it and use it for baked goods after the candy goes on sale! woot woot. if you want candy then eat some damn candy. It's not that serious--I'm not one who subscribes to the "clean eating" lifestyle. I think food is to be enjoyed even if it's "bad food."0

When you see the candy and it's calling your name, just tell yourself, "Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels". I heard that quote somewhere and I use it as my mantra anytime I'm tempted by fattening or unhealthy foods.
Halloween candy being an example.0 -
Halloween candy jumps in my shopping cart, hops up on the cash register, makes me drive it home, barricades itself and takes hostages in my cabinet, and forces me to eat it in amounts that exceed my calorie goal.
Easter candy is worse, much worse.
I just totally laughed out loud at this and got a weird look from my co-worker! Thank you for that!0 -

Now i wondered why serial killers grow up messed up hehe0

First of all, I buy the candy at the last possible minute (Halloween day, 2:59pm). When my daughter gets home from trick or treating I pull out a medium sized tuperware bowl and tell her she can keep as much as what fits in the bowl (she's 6 for the love!!) and whatever is left over (including what we bought for the trick or treaters) gets schleped to work for all of the scavengers. Literally, I can dump it in the break room at 1015pm (I work nights) and by breaktime at 3am its LLLOOONNGGG gone. Since my daughter handpicks every piece, she's like a bookeeper and will know if something is missing, so I don't even attempt to take a piece from her. HOWEVER. I will allow myself 1 - 6 pack of Reese's Pumpkins (not in one sitting!) ONLY if I can find them on clearance. Watching my calories and my dollars!!!0
-
I have 3 Costco size bags of candy in my pantry right now waiting for the big day. I'll probably have a couple of my favorites when I'm handing them out.
I will buy myself a bag of the Harvest mix w/candy corn and pumpkins and eat a serving every day or 2 until it runs out, but I haven't done it yet.
I can either a) go to the gym or b) eat less other calories to account for these treats. Life happens and I intend to enjoy it and the sweets that come along with it.0 -
Eat the candy!!
A piece a day (typically at 70-100 calories a piece) isn't gonna kill ya so long as you account for it.
Halloween Candy = Awesomeness
Can't wait to raid my kids' trick or treat bags, lol.
^^^^^^^^ YES ^^^^^ AWESOMENESS ^^^^^^^^^^
I get to buy about 6 or 7 100+ piece count bags of candy for all the kiddos er ninjas, ghost, goblins, angels, fairies, etc, etc. and hand it out... soooo I am also nibblin' on a few myself. October, November, and December are my toughest months in terms of sweets and stuff b/c of all the holidays. I tend to enjoy myself (eat a bit more than I should) through this time of year knowing that I will most definitely need to work it off after the new year. The other nine months I mostly avoid sweets...translated = only during special days - birthdays - anniversaries - receptions -etc. I do not gorge on the sweets like I used to even during the holidays nowadays since I know and keep track of my calories now. I say enjoy.... then afterwards get back on the fitness journey.0 -
I love candy. I will always love candy. Why give it up now? Yeah, I'll keep my candy.0
-
It really isn't worth it. Temporary satisfaction at its finest.
If you're one of those people who can stop at one or two then go for it. BUT if you have a history of binge eating on these sorts of things (how easy is it to overeat individually-wrapped chocolates that are 80 calories a piece? 10 of them popped into your mouth is easily 800) then just skip it. It isn't worth the guilt & physically discomfort that'll follow.0 -
