Please don't be mad but...

How do you eat when you are just not hungry? In all honesty, I have a very difficult time remembering to eat. I logged my food intake for the first time yesterday (have been on MFP for about a week) and was actually shocked to see how little I ate.

Today I have DELIBERATELY made myself eat both breakfast and lunch despite not actually being hungry for either one. After finishing my lunch a few minutes ago (a cup of chili) I feel sick and overfull. I have no idea how I am supposed to eat dinner tonight.

I am not doing this on purpose. I am not "starving myself". I just dont typically get hungry until the evening and then I eat a small dinner. Is this just a habit I need to get into?

  • I know what you mean, sometimes I get so busy with my day that I forget to eat but that has not happened lately lol... The only way I would not have any desire to eat is if I'm feeling depressed but I seem to get over that quickly as soon as my stomach grumbles and tells me to get over it and feed it lol... Sorry I'm not much help here. You're the first person I've seen post something like this so I'm puzzled as to why you're not hungry. I'm glad you're eating something though even when you're not hungry. Good luck, I hope someone else that makes more sense besides me replies :flowerforyou:

Can I ask were you always like this? How did you get into postion of having to lose 175 Lbs?

I presume this is recent....I would re-do your TDEE calculation and base it on the weight you would like to be and the weight you are now I find it instructive to see what I will be eating like if I ever get my goal.

I use the calculaors on http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/

And no this is fairly recent. I would say this has been the last 3-4 months that I have really noticed it. I am not depressed, in fact I haven't been this happy or positive in many many years.

Using this http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/ it says I should eat 1710 calories a day as opposed to here which says 1300. Not sure I would be able to eat that much. :frown:

I probably will get some nasty replies on this answer but if you have tried boosting with some high density foods like nuts, avocado, protein shakes then I would not force yourself to eat.

Eating well is sometime just too much bother and it does no harm to eat less than recommended whatever people say here.

If you are happy and still losing don't force yourself to eat....

I have to agree. Also try home made smoothies, maybe? Unless you're eating a dangerously low amount, I wouldn't recommend forcing yourself to eat. If you are and still aren't hungry, then obviously a trip to the doctor is in order.

Try to remember that this lifestyle isn't just about weight loss, but being healthy. Your body needs so many nutrients and calories a day to function properly. If you don't eat enough, then you run the risk of being malnourished, your body burning muscle, lots of things that can be as bad for your overall health as eating too much. If you need to supplement, try protein drinks or bars. But personally, I would say you should stay at least around 1200 calories at a minimum. I don't advocated drinking calories, but in your case it might be better than not getting enough calories.

Maybe I will try some protein shakes of some sort. I want to make sure I am getting plenty of nutrition as this is a not a diet that I am on but rather a new way of living. I kinda figured that when I started exercising that I would get hungry, but that is not the case! lol

I see that you just joined MFP but lost quite a bit prior to joining. What kind of program were you doing before? If it was something radically different, it could be that it's just taking some time for your body to get used to the new program. I would say try eating calorie-dense foods every few hours. Try the 100 cal packs of nuts, nut butter on some rich whole grain bread, cheese and crackers. Those kinds of snacks don't take much volume to add up in calories. And the added protein is good for you.

Could be your appetite is just in recovery. Give it some time, and I'm sure your system will catch up. :)

I have not changed what I am eating now that I am on MFP, I am just now logging what I eat. I eat primarily whole foods and don't eat any processed foods. I basically eat like I am diabetic so only healthy carbs and no sugar.
